There's a pretty good reason for this.

In an SJW "programmer's" mind:

Criticism = Harassment
Advice = Harassment
Point out lack of skill = Harassment
Not being hired = Harassment
Being taken to task on an issue = Harassment

With this broad a brush for Harassment they become absolved and assume it's a massive wall of industry conspiracy, sexism or any other convenient excuse for why they're not in the business they want.

Not that they're clearly poorly adjusted human beings unable to take criticism and actually learn something, or even lack the properly applied skills to go for the job.

The industries that have grown up in the last... 20 or so years (namely the rise of the internet and consumer tech) are ridiculously meritocratic. Hiring policies and corporate attitude results typically in companies not giving too much of a shit if you're white/black/asian/trans/gay/straight/otherkin but on the fact of wether you can do the sodding job or not.

This is a beautiful end-state and clearly the next evolution of capitalism and industry (with surprising hints of socialism, it has to be said) as it will have a knock on effect into society, it's why older job descriptions are changing both to make the jobs more attractive, reflect the duties involved etc.

Unfortunately like all change there will be luddites. And that's all SJWs are at the end of the day, luddites raging that they won't be part of the change.

Women in STEM actually is lower than it has been in a while proportionally, this is largely because demand is really bloody high due to how widespread even the most basic programming required for stuff to function has become.

Unfortunately the only people "talking" are SJWs bleating about mysoginy, harassment etc making it seem like a highly unattractive business to go into, compounding the problem.

In the case of worthless people like Wu, who are worthless in general and not just specifically because of lacking anything resembling tech skills, hiring Wu would entail dedicating multiple other employees to doing damage control and essentially acting as tard wranglers.

It's like Chris but worse because Wu, while absolutely talentless at anything a tech company would actually do, is quite talented at sociopathic manipulation and wrecking social scenes.

There's absolutely no reason anyone would hire a Wu to do anything except possibly find a fire and die in it.

My entry into programming education was long ago but the major problem of getting women into the field largely remains the same. The girls that were my peers at the time were great with the classwork but nearly every one of them went on to major in Psych or something ridiculous. Today they've all got Rent-a-Crowd-University's expanded curriculum and we've all seen how well that's doing.

As far as the industry goes, fuck, 20 years ago I had a string of female managers for something like 10 years and 3 companies. Plenty of women succeeded in tech roles but most of the women I reported to wound up doing product management - something good for them but you aren't really going to get direct hires there and help the younger girls along.

Everything's moved out west now and I don't have much frame of reference, except for nearly every interpersonal interaction with a non-technical person out there being nearly as awful as dealing with Canadians.

When you abuse the backchannel as much as Wu does it just pisses everyone off involved. Wu never ever seems to use the proper channels for this stuff anywhere she goes. People might tolerate her for a while but eventually those contacts move on, and then she's back to square one again.

She'd also need to be someone of actual note with more professional stuff linked than she could ever hope to muster.

All good reasons, but the Wu-entity lives for this stuff, as has been well documented. This would be such a asspat for Wu-entity. Buuuut, I guess there's no need for the blue tick when the sheer stupidity of the post content alone verifies the Wuser better than any app-based branding.

There's a couple of factual hiccups in the wiki article.

The 8086 Wu talks about was 10 years old and thoroughly obsolete in the late 80s, which is the reason to doubt that the Flynt family got one for their accounts. They'd get a more up to date computer if anything.

Also, talking the Bush campaign and Wu's alleged career as a DC politico, we know she had an internship with Trent Lott in 1997 from the CV but there's no evidence she ever had any other job in Washington. She did live in DC for something like 6 months or so before being hauled off to rehab, but not enough time to have a permanent job. In fact, thinking about it, the story she gave to Inc Magazine (family getting her a ticket to Dubya inaugural ball and that leading to a career in politics) is completely incompatible with the story in the book (not talking to family, near death boating accident, stuff all worldly good in car and move to DC.)

Wu's lies take so many forms you're never sure which one of them actually contains the tiny kernel of truth the story is based on.

Same here. The difference is I actually wish the best for Chris. He mightn't be a great person but he got dealt a bad hand and he's provided a lot of entertainment over the years.

Chris is mostly harmless. Wu however is not beyond lying and harassing people to further a perverted agenda.

I see them as different genres. Chris is the largely harmless refugee from reality. Wu has a different flavour of mental illness but also has the ability and desire to go out and hurt people. It's been a strange journey going from the loveable and unhygienic adventures of Chris to the lying lunatic that is Wu.
 
I personally find that lolcows in general have 'evolved' since Chris. I mean, Chris was the 'original' (unless you count some of the old fanfic writers of yore) but ever since then , the sheer level to which these things have gone have intensified dramatically.

I will say that the gamergate debacle has played at least some part in it, but that may just be a bit of a bias considering that most of the lolcows I've followed the 'sagas' of have had some sort of hand in it or spotlight shone upon them from people involved in it (Zoe Quinn, Dobson, Nicholas Nyberg, and the topic of this thread - John Flynt).

The thing that gets me the most is that the white-knighting has intensified too. It's not enough anymore to go to any source of possible disagreement and :autism: :autism: :autism: out at them for an hour about Saint Nyberg of the Holy Edgelord. Now it's about doing as much damage as possible to the person who disagreed with you, no matter how much they actually deserve it. The warnings when making an account on this site and the topic on internet security are proof enough of that.

It genuinely makes me miss the days when that kind of thing was uttered by internet tough guys on 4chan and generally treated as a joke.
