You have no idea why GG took that approach previously, do you?
See, there was a time when GG had to keep its beak clean for the purposes of at least getting a thumbprint onto the proverbial lens, and with good reason. KIA, for example, is a GG-supporting community located right smack-dab in the Devil's Mouth that is Reddit. They are a Sea Lion (lol) surrounded by angry sharks. Wu used to run Ghazi, and believe me, the push by SocJus idiots to kill KIA off has been huge. This is unsurprising; Reddit is essentially
run by the opposition. Ditto Twitter and indeed, most social networking sites. Even 4chan was captured.
What this led GG to do was less overt offense and more passive resistance by exploiting the opposition's own virulence. And, geniuses that they are, they fell into this trap, over and over and over. The Antis launched personal attack after personal attack, and it availed them nothing.
One of Geordie Tait's infamous screeds.
As Napoleon Bonaparte once put it,
"Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake."
One by one, the loudest voices in the opposition took
themselves out. Geordie Tait got fired, as did Bob Chipman. Leigh Alexander got pushed off Polygon and her own site, Offworld, died a miserable death forgotten and alone. Sam Biddle may as well have been a fucking recruitment poster for GamerGate. GG played nice for a time because that was how they won the narrative, bit by bit. Let the Antis do what they do best (act as histrionic maniacs with delusions of grandeur), and the logical path that follows will be people coming around to GG due to logic and reason winning out.
GG stayed in this mode because didn't
have to go on the offensive. The Antis were content to blow their own legs off, time and time again, and bleed themselves dry. Each time they did was fuel for the Internet Autism Machine, that part of GamerGate that got shit done (its boycotting engine). This is relevant to our thread here on Wu because Brianna Wu is a fucking
perfect microcosm of this behavior in action (just look at the sheer number of times she's memory holed something to pretend it never happeened; she's a laughing stock even
in Anti-GG now).
With GamerGate effectively having ended as a primary movement and going into watchdog mode, any need to keep one's hands clean is over. There is
nothing that the Antis can do at this point - nothing they can say - that will do anything to change the fact that they've already lost, that Brianna Wu's reputation is already shit, and that Sarah Nyberg is a pedophile. This suits us just fine; whilst Geth is generally at his best when he keeps himself polite, he has no reason to play nice at this point and there's no consequences to him not doing so. I'm interested in seeing what pans out from here, because Wu has pissed off a
terrible enemy, one that is not going to relent until Wu's house of cards is not only knocked over, but tossed into a fire.
