I imagine she wants a neutral opinion that makes her look informed while not getting in the nerves of her buddies working at Gawker

To attempt to recover even a shred of their good names I wouldn't put it past some Gawker employees to turn informant on all the scummy shit they did, including being John's PR. After all, they would be radioactive otherwise if they didn't do something to prove they have even a modicum of ethics.

You say that as if they weren't already radioactive.

Very true, but there is likely someone there who mostly just wanted to put bread on the table who will do anything to avoid being tarred with the same brush as the genuine assholes.

I also find it amusing the kind of eggshells Flynt's walking on. Even though even most SJWs are rejoicing along with everyone else over Gawker's fall, he's trying his damnedest to not pick a definitive side.

Unlike his political BS, where his Hilary boner is fucking obvious to anyone with a brain, he's trying even harder to avoid any hint of criticism of Gawker or its writers, which makes me wonder just how deep he was in cahoots with them to make him fear the consequences of shitting on them.

FYI: The reason why Wu has no clue, if "an aggressive ruling could affect free speech", is because Wu has either no idea what "free speech" is. Or -more likely- because she is sucking up to Gawker Media like a snail to the side of a dirty fish tank.

Stating the obvious here, but good money on Wu being afraid of having his shady backroom dealings exposed. I doubt Gawker would intentionally go after John, but them going under presents a very real threat to Mr.Flynt.

His concept of free speech " i can say whatever i want, you don't"

I think this is why I stopped paying attention to what Brianna Wu did for a while. She goes the way of Zoe Quinn. Any time it feels like she's falling into irrelevancy, she HAS to push herself into whatever is currently going on and make it all about her.

Wu has gone from one trick pony to lame horse big time in the last several weeks. Just a matter of time now before one of her own gets the shotgun to let the misery end.

The thing is, Wu's too stupid to to let it go gracefully, and as she flails impotently, it will be hilarious.

I'm hoping for it. Randy was implying that a certain person was cringeworthy and she didn't want to deal with her (ie. Wu) during the conference. A spat at a conference like that was being too optimistic, I guess. All it would take is someone like Randy to open the floodgates for turtle-harpy season. -- Goodness knows there are enough people who would love to take a potshot at Wu without repercussion.

Too many people don't want to spurg too badly in public and potentially burn bridges with people who will give them money later. They're smart enough to not do anything too stupid in order to keep mooching off their useful idiots.

So either Brianna will self-destruct or someone will find that the benefits outweigh the risks and do the job first. I don't know which would be more hilarious to watch to be honest. Watching self destruction is a treat, sure, but there's a lot of potential once player 2 enters the ring.

Chances are that in Wu's case, it's going to be both things happening almost simultaneously.

It's going to start off with Wu hitting the self-destruct button by calling out someone better left un-called-out (be it a fellow dangerhair whackjob or someone with infinitely more connections than Wu) and that person unloading on Wu with a fierce and righteous anger. Wu's still going to be dazed and confused by all the hurt that fell down from the sky, when, all of a sudden, long-thought allies turn on her the second word gets out that a fatwa has been issued.

Some staunch Wu fans(?) will try to combat the attackers and get swept aside &/or killed by the barrage of outrage.

It won't be pretty for Wu, but it will be fantastic and hilarious for everyone watching from the sidelines.

Be prepared for an endless stream of snarl-tics.

You weren't exaggerating. I quit after ~45 minutes and I counted 22 snarl tics. Here is but a sampling:

When John/Brianna is not producing snarl tics he is otherwise ticcing. The entire time that Miguel is talking John's lips are twitching and his eyes are darting; the snarl tic is the worst tic rather than the only tic.

Also, John doesn't really listen to what Miguel/Katherine is saying (in his faux English accent). John just waits for Miguel to finish, says "that's well stated" and just goes off on some non sequitur that is about him. To his credit Miguel tries at times to talk about issues instead of himself but John just talks about himself rather than trying to engage with what Miguel is saying.

I'm curious. Why, exactly, is Wu so fixated on the idea of getting Revolution 60 onto Steam? Wu's smart enough to know it will end in disaster, so why not just cancel the whole thing and blame GG?
