Also expanding on the "expandability". Wu has ordered 4 ram sticks at 4gb each. Not sure on the motherboards ram limit, but thats all the slots used up. Why not get 2x8gb ram sticks and leave the rest free for expandability?
he did order 2 8gb sticks so he at least did one tiny part of it right.
That mobo supports up to 32gb of RAM. Now, here's the thing. If you are making a gaming rig, you're actually a bit better going with more sticks, as you will get an overall faster memory access rate. For example, if you are going for a total of 16gb, you'd be slightly better off with the 4x4gb than 2x8gb. So if Wu switched over to 2 larger sticks instead, she actually did that tiny part wrong.
That mobo also has pretty wildly divergent reviews. About 2/3 are praising it, but the rest are saying it failed after a couple of months.
Next: why get a 750w sub-standard PSU? With the setup wu has, you can get a cheap corsair PSU around 500w thay will last longer and is quiter than that psu.
Not just any microATX but a minitower case. According to the specs here the case accommodates "a dual expansion slot VGA up to 350mm in length." According to the amazon page for her GPU, her video card is 15.9 inches in length, or around 400mm.
As for the video card, yes the 10XX's have recently come out, and they look pretty awesome, but the 980ti is a solid performing card (and the one I have, as well). It is pretty power hungry, requiring a mimimum of a 600w PSU. I'd have probably gone with the 750, but definitely would have gone with a different manufacturer. Also, the amazon page is likely wrong. My card is from a different manufacturer, but is nowhere near 15" long, and the manufacturer website lists the length of the card at 287mm, or about 11.3".
There are still a lot of bad choices being made by Wu in this build, beginning with the micro-ATX form factor, and continuing with choosing a case that doesn't have any external drive bays.
Hmm, I almost feel as if I was defending Wu for a second there. Blech...
