I have seen what I assume are jokes about an 'independence day' for Britain.

Like, is it legit? Will Britain be able to have their own holiday where they can shoot fireworks and eat burgers and fun stuff like that? If so, that's pretty neat. And it's so close to the US' Independence Day too.

It's almost like our countries are coming closer together, what with the crippling debt, iffy governments, and crazed college students who throw fits over nothing.

This was actually the end point of the Leave Campaign (after "borrowing" it from Farage's UKIP) that we should make June 23rd our independence day by voting Leave.

Since then Nigel Farage (Who's protest UKIP party began breathing down the necks of the traditional parties at the last GE) has stated he thinks June 23rd should become a public Independance Day holiday.

I reckon it will be a little while before we actually do have such a day as a holiday, but we'll see.

This petition thing is funny here in the UK, so many sour grapes tumblrinas wanting to ignore a democratic by millions of people, because the middle-class SJWs feel superior...

The corrosive effect that social media has wrought on politics really was on full display during this.

People who've spent the last 10 years building dissent-free hugboxes around themselves and playing zero-sum identity politics where there can be no dissent have totally failed to understand how to sway an audience, appeal to potential allies, or even just be polite and discourse. Walking to the gym the other day, somebody in one of the apartment buildings here (Prague, as I've mentioned before) was just blasting "Rule, Britannia" out their windows, which I have to assume means that that person at least was excited about it.

I'm glad the UK will leave.

You can add Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to that list.
