Petition for this to be their new flag:

I'm still waiting for a Tumblrina threatening suicide over it.

You know it's coming.

What ever happened to the concept of keeping a stiff upper lip? Sit down, have a cuppa, everything'll be right as rain sooner or later. Sun up, sun down. It's the British way, mate. Seems the young POHMs have forgot that.

As a remain voter, I'm pretty repulsed by the disingenuousness/intellectual laziness of several of my peers in assuming Brexit's main appeal was racism and far-right nationalism, and I can't say I blame any Brexiters who dismissed Remain because of the frivolous use of the racism card. It's this frustrating habit people have of oversimplifying complex political issues (especially the motives and nature of the people on the other side) that makes it more difficult to make an informed decision (partially because it's harder to find information untainted by partisan bullshit, partially because both sides repulse you with their behaviour), you know, for those of us who care enough about our country's future to want to be sure we're making the right choice.

Frankly, I didn't give much of a toss either way. From what little I could piece together from the staunchly non-factual mudslinging campaigns on both sides in the run-up to the referendum, neither was the clearly preferable option (even on ideological grounds) and both would have their consequences.

On the flipside, apparently quite a few Brexit voters are regretting their decision because they only intended it to be a protest vote and didn't expect it to actually win (lol). I was actually kinda taken aback when I read about it, I thought my countrymen were a bit more intelligent than that.

As a remain backer it pisses me off to see how the remainees handled this. You could talk about how Nigel Farage would never keep his promises, You could talk about how UKIP and the BNP only care about England and don't care about the rest of the UK, You could talk about how this is potentially overkill to one problem, but no just cry 'racist'.

Happy Independence! Are you guys doing fireworks and BBQ later?

We shouldn't be wishing for these people to commit suicide, honestly. They just need to grow up and get over it.

Doing so means not treating this as the end of the world. It also means knowing the whole thing is complicated and not "racist old people" trying to ruin everything.

They've most of their growing-up done already; after all they're old enough to vote.

Never a better time for some patriotic music. The Sun never sets on British Empire.

Also, god damnit

I have seen what I assume are jokes about an 'independence day' for Britain.

Like, is it legit? Will Britain be able to have their own holiday where they can shoot fireworks and eat burgers and fun stuff like that? If so, that's pretty neat. And it's so close to the US' Independence Day too.

It's almost like our countries are coming closer together, what with the crippling debt, iffy governments, and crazed college students who throw fits over nothing.
