I've said this a thousand times but it bears repeating. Australia is the world's most functional socialist country because of it's strong borders. Its fucking anthem even talks about how great its borders are. The concept of socialism is very primitive arithmetic and economics: everyone puts in and everyone takes out in such a way that the poorest of the poor are smarter and better than other countries's. You want this so that you're competitive. If there's no competition because you're trapped in a continent-wide prison union, and more people are taking out more money than what others are putting in, all you end up with is a bloated welfare state a la the United States. Australia also has intense restrictions on visas; even as an American I was limited to 6 months no-extension. Being as we can legislate against the cunts hiding that £300m offshore to avoid tax within 2 years they're going to try and do their best to keep the cashflow up until they die from tax.
