Oh, my social networks have been gloriously salty today. Mmm-mmm.

I bet the demographic of the vote was nothing like what they think. There is a contingent of people who believe ever closer political union is the only thing that has kept us from another world war. Those are mostly people who remember the last one. In other words, real old. There is also a contingent who have retirement homes in France and Spain. Also old. Or who make a trip over once every few months to restock their wine cellars. Old.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Fuck you England I didn't need my retirement savings anyway.

This is what happens when you turn politics into a lifestyle, you have a midlife crisis, at 20.....

Agreed, it is the same here. The cozy, lazy, and 50+ people like the Eu, while the younger, more radical ones want to leave. Basically it is simply a question of greed vs nationalism. Is freedom worth the inconvenience?

Gotta say, I'm pretty proud of Wales for holding against the London vote. I figured they'd just fuck us all over :\

I think a lot of the salt in Social (and real) Media is because now they have to face the reality that they're either
a) out of touch with what people really want
b) unable to influence what people do

Not being heavily involved in politics, national or international, I only got the occasional FB post or news article that even clued me in that the referendum was pending. And without exception, it was framed as "some bigots are trying to break away from the EU, but they won't have enough votes, so I don't really care". It was met from the anti side with, apparently nothing but scorn and flippant dismissal, they just couldn't bring themselves to even entertain the thought it might pass, so they prepared no counterpoint... at least that's how it looked to me.

First rule of politics: Run scared, or don't run.
