Dark Forces 1, 2 and mysteries of the sith (these are ok but compared to jedi outcast and academy they are shit), jedi outcast , jedi academy, serious sam, hexen 2.
Cant think of any else off the top of my head at the moment, but these are the games that I grew up with and see no one talk about at all really, if you were asking me to pick my favourite its difficult because both outcast and academy hold a huge place in my heart not only being the first fps games I played but also being cool as shit.
I played a lot of dark forces 2 when I was a kid. It was dark forces 2 and the Jedi Knight games that got me into the idea of the star wars extended universe. I always wanted to try Jedi academy. It looked so cool compared to dark forces 2.
does the OG Perfect Dark count? Loved that game's levels, guns and soundtrack.
Better than Goldeneye TBH. Also helps Joanna is a badass woman done right
I played a lot of both of them. I remember when we got Perfect Dark and i was super excited when it was just like Goldeneye but better in pretty much every way. It's one of the few games I've actually sat and autistically 100%ed. Completed every mission in every difficulty. Got all the secrets. I did the same with goldeneye but in goldeneye it was a save file me and my dad were playing together, with perfect dark i did it myself.

The other big one I played was Duke Nukem 3d. We had the first 2 Duke nukem games and I'm pretty sure that's the only reason I ended up being allowed to play it. My parents assumed it would be similar in tone to the first two and I played it before my parents actually saw what the game was and by the time they realized what it was actually like they figured it was probably too late and that I'd already been playing it anyway and I might as well keep playing it. At that time to my kid brain that game was probably the coolest thing that existed. I didn't even realize video games could be like that until I played Duke 3d.

Play marathon I promise its not that confusing, well the first 2 arnt, well the main stories are at least straight forward... well as long as you read the manual for the first one.
Every time I hear about Marathon I'm like "oh yeah I should play that", then ten minutes later I forget about it again. I really should play it.

I guess "arena shooter" wasn't working out because it doesn't reference a fucking wojak variant.
When I think arena shooter I specifically think Serious Sam, which is very similar to a boomer shooter in a lot of ways. I'd argue they're more similar than they are different.

My post got wiped so I'll post it again
Maybe "classic fps" would be a better term? I feel like "boomer shooter" specifically referred to the newer games like Dusk and Ion Maiden at first.
As for arena shooter, they make me think of Serious Sam and modern doom titles, where levels have several areas that don't allow you to leave until you finish off all the enemies. Serious Sam in particular was pretty tedious.
