People really need to recognize the signs of cognitive decline/impairment in older relatives, even those that you don't think are quite old enough for that sort of thing as a lot of boomers and even gen xers seem to be quicker to go that direction. And that this means when you do recognize it that you can't really trust them to do anything anymore. Especially something like watching over small children. They're physically and mentally unwell and cannot do it.

What really got me is there was a part where she was talking about how hard he worked to get his college education. He worked 2 jobs to be able to afford tuition! When she was telling us this like it was a mind-shattering revelation, everyone of a certain age she was talking down to were all just silently looking at each other thinking... yeah, we do the same thing. The difference is we don't get jobs when we graduate college, we just get to eat shit.

It's sad seeing them forget so many things week to week, and there's increasing cases when you can tell them something and it doesn't seem to connect in their head whatsoever. I did a rewatch of Kitchen Nightmare again and I couldn't help but notice a vast majority of the failing business owners were bored boomers who thought they'd try their luck in the service industry with zero experience. Then when Gordon shows up to offer help, they explode and go full delusion mode or shut down and fall into hysterics. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to deal with these old fucks in a work place on a daily basis.

It's something that can rapidly progress from grandpa/grandma being a little forgetful to them babbling absolute nonsense six months later. It will catch you flatfooted.

There was one relative who I thought was having hearing loss issues but it turned out they just couldn't process very simple, measured speech anymore. Was a horrifying realization.

Bar Rescue is the exact same. One boomer told his employee he was going to gift her the bar in exchange for being manager. She was a cute albeit ran thru red head. His son, whom also worked at the bar, was very irritated by this. The owner drew up a fake contract and had this redhead working 70 hours a week for him for pennies on the promise of inheriting the bar. The host of the show exposed all of this and that the man was in severe debt so no one would be inheriting anything.

There was this other episode where a boomer couple was able to retire early with tons of savings. They went to many islands in the Caribbean and the dumb fuck wife said lets open a rum bar based off our travels. Yes, neither of them had any experience in the service industry. They had so much money they could have easily been retired for 50 years taking endless vacations. Of course, they lost it all through the rum bar operation and the husband had to go back to work. I think the bar closed too.

Highly recommend the show for some serious you've got to be kidding me boomer moments.

Also, if your dream is to one day own a bar you should kill yourself. Sincerely.

I’ve worked for a couple that tried this with a pizza place, while the husband was also working his normal 9-5 factory job. Granted, they were nice enough but did almost no research into the area they opened in. A contributing factor for my departure was when went from running deliveries to scheduling them, the wife accused me of micro managing because I would advise the drivers on how to most quickly make their deliveries.
The place shut down less than a year after I quit because the area simply couldn’t keep them afloat.

Boomers never think that the downsides could happen to them. Traditional women from these countries don’t go for these guys from other countries.
