ABUJA (Reuters) - One hundred and ten girls are missing after an attack on a school in northeast Nigeria by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, the information ministry said on Sunday, in what may be one of the largest abductions since the Chibok kidnappings of 2014.

The Islamist militant group attained international notoriety after abducting more than 270 schoolgirls from the town of Chibok. That case drew global attention to the insurgency and spawned high profile social media campaign Bring Back Our Girls.

Boko Haram, whose name translates as “Western education is forbidden” in the Hausa language widely spoken in northern Nigeria, has killed more than 20,000 people and forced two million to flee their homes in a violent insurgency that began in 2009.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the 75-year-old former military ruler elected in 2015 after vowing to crush Boko Haram, has described the disappearance of the girls after Monday’s attack in the town of Dapchi, Yobe state, as a “national disaster”.

The insurgents drove into the town of Dapchi on Monday and attacked the girls’ school, sending hundreds of students fleeing. Some of the attackers were camouflaged, with witnesses stating that a number of students thought they were soldiers.

“The federal government has confirmed that 110 students of the Government Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State, are so far unaccounted for, after insurgents believed to be from a faction of Boko Haram invaded their school on Monday,” the information ministry said in a statement.

There had been confusion over the number of those missing, with estimates ranging from about 50 to more than 100. State police, Yobe government and others had given different figures while a parent representing families of girls who disappeared on Friday told Reuters 105 were missing.

Yobe state government added to the confusion when it said on Wednesday that dozens of the girls had been rescued, only to issue a statement the next day saying the schoolgirls were mostly still unaccounted for, sparking anger among locals.

The Nigerian Air Force on Sunday said the chief of air staff had “directed the immediate deployment of additional air assets and Nigerian Air Force personnel to the northeast with the sole mission of conducting day and night searches for the missing girls”.


“The renewed efforts at locating the girls are being conducted in close liaison with other surface security forces.”

Information Minister Lai Mohammed, who was part of a delegation of ministers who met parents and teachers in Dapchi and announced the number of missing girls, also said police and security officials had been deployed to schools in the state.

Tbf Africa are full of those savages terrorist ( I remember a group of exceptional in Angola who called themselves ninjas) but none of them will harm europe/USA like al-qaeda/ISIS did, so people don't care.

There are feminist groups online that do the twitter activist thing about Boko Haram. They're commonly known as terfs, though, and they're evil, apparently, because they give a shit about females first and not troons or kissing muslim and poc ass. So, nazis, I guess.
 
Bitching about western education and how haram it is to educate girls is just a convenient pretense for these people to raid schools and abduct poor, innocent girls.
I can't even voice how disgusting this scum is and even though I dislike the idea of foreign intervention at every corner of the earth, Boko Haram needs to be addressed internationally. At least stop their cash flow.

They realize nobody wants to willingly join their cult, so they have to kidnap girls and force them to be fatwa factories. This in turn attracts incels who carry out more of these raids.

Don’t think about the girls for a second, but think about the kids of these slave marriages and how indoctrinated they will be. :sigh:

Plus...imagine any of the boys they abduct seeing how the west only cared about the girls being taken and it being rubbed in their faces by their captors as to how little they matter and that they're better off joining the extremists. That'd probably make them willingly be indoctrinated and continue the cycle.

This is what pissed me off after the Chibok kidnappings (when 200+ girls were kidnapped and enslaved by Boko Haram). A bunch of countries (including the US) offered to help search for and rescue the girls but Nigeria was basically like “No thanks, don’t bother.” As a result it took years for most of those poor girls to be found (and even then a lot of them are still unaccounted for/still held captive by Boko Haram).

I still hold that event as one of the watershed incidents that led to regressives and SJWs to start turning away from real world issues and focus more on non-problems in cushy first world environments like manspreading and assuming genders. It doesn't look good when you tweet #bringbackourgirls and the terrorists very clearly are not impacted by your slacktivism. It's a lot more profitable to complain about the wage gap and other issues that 1) western navel-gazing cucks will trip over themselves trying to answer for to prove their own wokeness, and 2) intentionally don't have hard success conditions. That way their goalposts are always moving so that they can both pump it for points forever, and also not get called out when it obviously fails.

It would just become an educated shithole. The government officials will be more efficient and smart about stealing public money for personal use, the political opposition will be more smart about agitating for their right to steal public money instead, the military would be able to plot its coups more proactively, and the people will be smart enough to realize they need to GTFO.
