If over 30% of people press the blue button, everyone lives, but it can't override the black button vote. If it matches the red vote it will override the red vote.

If over 30% of people press the red button, only the red button people will live, but it can't override the black button vote.

Those two feel silly because then everyone should press the red button? So the blue button is irrelevant, then, leeching votes off the poll.

If over 5% of people press the black button, everyone dies.

A disgusting lot of people are passively suicidal, just hoping to die but not really getting it over with. 5% is a rather low number.
I suggest tricking would-be black button pressers to go to anonymous meetings and killing them there

If over 35% of people press the white button, they'll die and everyone else gets to live, overriding the black button vote.

With no actual stakes, more people will pick the black button just for lolz. You should change what it does from "everyone dies" to "everyone dies except those who pressed black button, whom become niggerjeets instead".

The practical problems with this, is that you can see the votes' percentages already, so you get privileged info that in theory you wouldn't IRL. Also, people in here memeing or not doing seriously; when facing death, their votes could change, just like in the initial & dumb blue/red button problem.

The actual real-life approach would maybe be discourse between people and agreement on what to do (some would lie, but probably a minority). And the alternative approach in here, would be someone making sock accounts and fucking up your results.

Another problem, seems like you cannot avoid assholes pressing the black button, and the only way to counteract is the white one, but who is going to take that role when they are the ones dying? Needs >35%? So even if they win, they still die.

Meaning, more than likely (in a real scenario), without an agreement or discourse (unlike in this thread, where votes are transparent and people can speak), black would easily make it above 5%, and the only defense is white, but no one IRL is going to go for that, the average mind would press blue or red: (empaths, idiots, and non-idiots but with strong convictions would press blue), (autists, sociopaths, apathetic folks, smartasses would press red).

But black would reach the threshold, and the only ones pressing white would be less selfish old people, and those who want to die but with a "clear conscience", which I don't think would reach the threshold.

So, in a real scenario for this problem (not in cozy forum where you can pretend, while eating snacks and listening to music), everyone would die.
