Blade Runner 2099, a new entry in the Blade Runner franchise that’s planned as a television sequel to the 2017 film Blade Runner 2049, is in development at Amazon Studios, reports Deadline.


The live-action series will be written and executive-produced by Silka Luisa, the showrunner of the Apple TV Plus series Shining Girls, which will premiere this spring. Ridley Scott, the director of the original 1982 film, Blade Runner, will also be an executive producer.

Despite these details, nothing is set in stone. The series is in what Deadline calls “priority development.” This means that Amazon Studios is “fast tracking” scripts and looking into production dates, but that the series isn’t actually underway yet. The production is staffing up a writers room at the moment, according to Deadline, which also reports that Scott himself could direct episodes of the series if it gets greenlit.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of a Blade Runner TV show. During his double press tour for his films House of Gucci and The Last Duel, Scott said that he was planning a 10-episode series based in the universe. At the time, Scott mentioned that there was a pilot written for the series and a show bible, but it’s unclear if Blade Runner 2099 is the same series that Scott was discussing at the time.

While Blade Runner has had quite a few spinoffs, including animated shorts and the recent anime Blade Runner: Black Lotus, nothing in the series has explored the future past Blade Runner 2049. With a gap of 50 years, there’s really no telling what the new 2099-set series could be about, but we’re guessing replicants will be involved one way or another.

As much as I love Blade Runner neither movie was a hit at the box office, and the brand isn't nearly strong enough were slapping it's name on something will make it a hit see Blade Runner: Black Lotus which no one likes or remembers despite coming out last year.
 
Can't wait to see how people live in the mulatto utopia where all synths are white. Oh wait, we're not getting that, that would be fucking clever.
 
I already have my blade runner anime so I don't care about Amazon woke adaptation.

Blade Runner got lucky when it was made and it had all the right ingredients and Ridley Scott knew how to direct and tell a story. Blade Runner 2 was awful and spent more time dragging its ass around and focuses on irritating characters who lacked any substance to them. The dialogue was bad, the characters stunk, the pacing was purposely made slow to match the original film, but the original film was filling you in with constant bits of info along the way to keep you engaged.

Denni Villnoobs direction in the second film was stale, the world was vapid, the focus on environmentalism was so on the nose that it felt like a PSA, and the world lacked that rich grunginess the original had. I got halfway through the film and turned it off.

No engaging characters, no interesting mystery, no interesting characters and the world felt like a pale imitation of the original film but it couldn't even make that work because it was to fixate on environmentalism. They could have handled that similarly to how they handled the use of animals in the first film, but instead they went full on Saturday morning cartoon PSA on that shit.

Theres no way to pull off a Blade Runner movie or series in the west now, because of all the clowns running the shows at production companies, Ridley Scott being too old to direct anything, too many bad writers and too many stupid actors. This could be a nice anime series as a lot of this shit hasn't infected Japan yet, but even then they'd get neutered by the studios and put out something that would be so-so, instead of something that can actually stand on its own.

Imagine Mamoru Oshii getting his hands on an IP like this and being left to do it with little studio interference.
 
This is a serious piece of dirt. Blade Runner 2049 is a bona fide masterpiece. I am glad I went to see it in the theater.
Amazon brought us such deck as that Nazi Hunter show where some blackie black bitch made an older German woman eat horse shit, as well as that snuff series Cracka where white racists are transported to an alternate timeline where blacks own white slaves in a setting reminisce of the antebellum South.

I bet this won't even be as good as the short lived late 90s Canadian sci-fi series Total Recall 2070 which blended Recall and Blade Runner into a cyberpunk police procedural about an android cop and his highly dubious human partner.
 
Even the original (which was pretty great in it's own right) was a bastardization of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. I'm not really interested in the woke bastardization of the bastardization of the bastardization. I like to get my Dick directly from the source.

Yeah it was a good movie, I saw it before I read the book actually and it's pretty much my first/go-to impression of what cyberpunk in general looks like. It's different but not in a bad way, it just omits some of the message/changes the world a bit to make it a more compact story. I just wanted to flex my library card and make a dick joke.

It would die if modern entertainment was anywhere near as good as the quality we got before the 2000's started.
Sorry mate, but nothing has managed to top Lethal Weapon and until it does the 80s will never die.

90% of the brain trauma victims(aka the public) who watch it have never seen the actual movie or read the short story. Who cares?

What I want is a TV Series of Fahrenheit 451 where Montag is a trans-lesbia-fagatron who realizes being a clump of cells is a good reason to die and stays in the city only to open his hatchet wound to the atomic bomb dropping and thereby saving all of humanity in the vicinity so they can all dance! A big dance number where his neo vagina only become stronger by absorbing all those books!

If you’re going to do a woke cyberpunk TV show, do George Alex Effinger’s ‘Marîd Audran’ series. It’s got Muslims, blacks, Asians, transsexuals, drugs, homosexuality etc baked right in.

For bonus points, consider that transsexual technology is so good in that setting that the only way people don’t pass is if they pick physical features that don’t look natural on them.

For bonus bonus points have all the transsexuals played by cis people for maximum setting realism and current day troon rage.
 
I bought Blade Runner in a combo pack with Blade Runner 2049 from Best Buy a few years back. Blade Runner is a good movie. I haven't watched 2049 yet but I have heard it's not very good. I have watched the original a few times but not in one sitting. I plan to just sit down and watch the whole movie from start to finish one day.

But the faggots won't leave anything alone. Everything must be ruined, or they try to ruin it. They will never be able to kill the original Blade Runner. Just like we all have favorable memories of Star Wars, Jurassic Park and so on. It's not new. Boomers and Gen X watched them do this kind of shit to Jaws, Rambo and Rocky.

All I need is Blade Runner and Gondola Blade Runner.

 
Why watch? The techno-dystopia going on outside my window right now is free and I get to play a walk-on role.
