Surprised there isn't a thread.
Action RPG loosely based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West. Allegedly not a soulslike.

Reveal:

Launch trailer:

The usual suspects are determined to smear the game. Shamelessly stolen from the games journalism thread. Thanks, @Frosted Snowflakes!
Samar Abedian of ScreenRant gave Black Myth: Wukong a low score of 3/5 because it "lacks diversity and inclusion". What a woke bitch.

Another mentally woke they/them activist clickbait journalist, Alicia Haddick from TechRadar Gaming, also gave it a negative review on Black Myth: Wukong, and she called it "sexist and misogynist". Thank god she's already getting roasted like Samar Abedian.

Not even entirely sure what the original gripe was. Something about the studio being sexist. No one cares besides a handful of overpaid laptop caste losers.

IIRC, Sweet Baby Inc tried to cajole them into hiring their consultants and the devs told them to go fuck themselves.

It's just as well too. I think a lot of people will like the Journey to the West lore. The last thing any adaptation of this novel needs is ugly black lesbians ruining it.

The "not diverse enough" is so bullshit. If an African myth based game came out, would they say lions and tigers aren't diverse enough, or even just black Africans? Of course not. If anything Chinese people seem less represented in games than black people to me, and I'll try not to make a joke about how the monkeys represent them.

The biggest sin seems to be they do a crap job of telling the story of Sun Wukong which is a big shame given it's the first, sort of, chinese AAA title with worldwide attention and it's a perfect story to tell. I can see why they might think Asian gamers would feel a bit patronised by it, too, though.

I will wait to see how it runs on the deck and maybe get it in a sale.

Was the misogynist angle a SBI post hoc smear?

edit: I found this (A).
>Chinese media: 'Black Myth: Wukong' refused to be extorted $7 million by SweetBaby.

English:

The reason why the team behind "Black Myth: Wukong" has been subjected to persistent sexist attacks and slander since their first promotional video is because they have consistently refused political correctness guidance and rejected the extortionate guidance fees of millions of dollars demanded by these political correctness teams.

Actually, such teams are quite common in Europe and America. They interfere with works like "Assassin's Creed" "Dying Light 2 Stay Human" and "God of War" by pushing for politically correct female protagonists. These changes are the direct result of the interference and guidance of such teams.

Game science teams refuse to communicate with these groups and reject their interference. Most importantly, they refuse to pay the exorbitant $7 million in guidance fees. This is the direct reason why they are being attacked and slandered. Some justifications are based on the team's lack of diversity or representation, which doesn't align with the political correctness standards.

A typical example is an article by a major IGN writer criticizing "Hogwarts Legacy" and refusing to evaluate or promote it due to its alleged lack of political correctness.

In case anyone was going to post it btw, the agreement sent to reviewers and youtubers about not mentioning feminism etc was fake.

It had to be. Why else would they complain about diversity in a game that takes place in China and India?

I'm watching a playthrough of the game and they definitely took some creative liberties. The headband Sun Wukong gets in the opening fight doesn't happen until after he meets the monk he's supposed to bodyguard. The fight sequences look great though. I think this game will be a hit.

I wanted to play this game but Unreal Engine 5 is simply unbearable. I can't take an action game that can't maintain a stable framerate seriously.

I think it was the IGN (yeah I know, IGN...) review I read that said it doesn't really hit the story beats of SWKs tale, but the review was otherwise glowing outside some tech issues (not that IGN would shit on it but you know).

I will check out the video tomorrow 'cos I got some stuff on in the background but I am interested in the game.

I just really like Chinese mythology so it's a bit of a shame that it couldn't be a bit more overt in spreading the tale for such a big title. Maybe it doesn't matter though I am only able to go off prerelease stuff for now,

From my understanding the "sexist" tweets were both butchered Google translations and are also local colloquialisms that are the equivalent of saying "busting my balls."

Nigger Journey To The West is the only story the Chinese are capable of telling that isn't Romance of Three Kingdoms.

Well that's not true. They have romance of the three kingdoms, too...

But yeah, it doesn't usually break the West in a big way in it's "pure" form though - I know it's Japan obviously, but just as an example, Dragonball has spread the story of Journey to the West... uh... to the west, but the Monkey King movies didn't even make a dent. I think Westerners would quite enjoy the story in it's more pure form, it's not as weird as something like Momotaro (again, I know, japan...)

Back to Romance oTTK, that is kind of similar too. I am stillshocked Kingdom (again, Japan... lol... the manga I mean) still doesn't have an official English release and even that is watered down. At least in games you have Dynasty Warriors in the West for that.

How do we know this is true?
