A biohacker injected himself with DNA sequence made from parts of the Bible and Koran in a risky experiment because he "wondered whether it would be possible."

Adrien Locatelli, from Grenoble in France, translated religious passages into DNA code to build unknown proteins which he then poured into his body.

The high-school student risked potentially fatal consequences after conducting the procedure without any knowledge of the effects the proteins would have on his body.

Locatelli, who claimed the bizarre experiment was the first of its kind, converted all of the letters in the holy books into a DNA sequence.

A DNA strand is made up of chemicals represented by the letters ACGT, and all genes are coded for by a different combination of these four letters.

Locatelli replaced every Hebrew character in the Book of Genesis with DNA code, excluding 2:10 to 2:14, 5, and 7:1 to 7:5 because they were "controversial," going in the order of GACT.

Their original source is garbage, but let’s hope this is real so we can see what happens to this idiot. It’ll most certainly fuck him up in the worst way imaginable, if he did it.

It depends on what he did to get in there. If he used CRISPR or some other vector to directly insert DNA in to his cells, one of two things will happen. The first potential consequence is nothing as the cells would reject the transformation or the string of genetic material codes for no protein as it's a meaningless string of DNA. The second potential consequence is illness or even death as proteins that interfere with normal biological processes are produced. If he just injected the DNA like a retard, nothing would happen. The DNA wouldn't be easily taken in by cells and would be degraded one way or another. Not to mention that inserted DNA may not even produce a change.

Yeah, nah. How is this supposed to work, you don't just "convert" a long book into DNA?
Also, whatever this created was most likely destroyed by his immune system within minutes of being introduced into his body.

If he does turn into a gray goo we'll all be consumed with the rest of the planet.
I'm personally hoping this initiates Second Impact so I can psychologically abuse teenagers into fighting eldritch abominations from inside giant bio-robot monstrosities.

Then what's the point?

According to comics this is the exact kind of 'science is magic' thinking that turns someone into a superhero, so good on this kid for giving it his best stupid shot.

If he wanted real godlike powers, instead of injecting this "Bible DNA" and "Quran DNA", in his bloodstream, he should just hook his mind up to the internet.

You can't. Or, you can, in the same way you can find predictions of the future in the bible, by arbitrarily making the rules up as you go along.

If you've got 4 chemicals to choose from, and you have to combine all 4 for a valid gene, at best you've got.. what... 16 possibilities? I'm pretty sure the hebrew alphabet is more than 16 characters.

16 possibilities is more than 2, and that's what our entire computer text encoding is based on.

You could pretty easily whip up 2-gene per-letter encoding scheme and go to town.

Still fucking exceptional though.

Does injecting DNA into your blood do... anything? It's not like our body is just looking for DNA to replace itself with.

Then again, random ass proteins in the blood probably isn't good for you. But then again, they are pretty damn small...

Consider Mad Cow/prion disease, which is caused by defective proteins, and can take decades to manifest into illness. It's a nutty thing to do.

Expecting this to work on any level at all is like expecting to recreate a Shakespeare play by throwing pens at stacks of paper

Godspeed though. I really hope he mainlined his cocktail instead of drinking it like a loser. Real "biohackers" have an IV drip of mutagens ready to go at all times

How would a high school student have access to CRISPR?

Is this guy kidding us?

The Demonic Gene shit from Shin Megami Tensei IV was fictional shit, this is just asinine.

FTFY

And even worse, it's asymptomatic as those prions start to eat your brain. By the time you manifest symptoms, it's not only incurable, the only thing there's time left to do is buy a casket.....
