Bill Cosby has recently been accused by at least 20 or so women of sexual assault dating back to the late 1960's. Considering the fact that he was probably one of, if not the most famous comedian on the planet 30 years ago, this is the American equivalent of the Jimmy Saville scandal. And the strange thing is, the whole thing came to light from a stand-up routine by Hannibal Buress.

And here's a timeline of how the allegations have progressed: http://www.vulture.com/m/2014/09/timeline-of-the-abuse-charges-against-cosby.html

I'm convinced there are far more celebrities who are guilty of varying degrees of sexual abuse. They just have such easy access and so much power over people due to the sick celebrity cult the west has cultivated. Put a sociopath and/or sexual deviant in a successful band and they basically have free reign over their fans.
Of course there are. This shit happens all the time with celebrities from all races, genders, sexualities, and walks of life. Not to mention their victims are similarly diverse. And it's amazing the bullshit defenses most of them get in the face of obvious crimes.

Bryan Singer has a rape record to give even Bill Cosby a run for his money, and to this day he gets to pump out hundred-million dollar movies like they're pancakes.

Charlie Sheen has beaten every woman he's had something resembling a serious relationship with, and he did all the way up to -- and after becoming -- the highest paid actor in television.

Steven Seagal bribed his way into becoming a Tibetan Lama, and has been tied repeatedly to sexual assault and even human trafficking. He's never served a day in prison for any of this.

Tom Cruise is the underboss of one of our nation's most dangerous, predatory, and powerful cults. Even after the horrific abuse allegations put forth by Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes, he's remained Louis Farrakhan untouchable.

R. Kelly's the most blatant rapist of his generation, and he's been the biggest R&B star in the world for the past quarter century. He even headlined the Pitchfork music festival the same year as that timeline I linked was released.

Courtney Love is a serial philanderer who cheated on every man she was ever with, used smack throughout her pregnancy, and has an extensive record of felony assault towards numerous victims up to and including her own daughter. Yet every single time someone has the stones to point out such things as the legal documents proving Courtney Love's crimes such as the abuse of her own daughter, horrible think pieces from sites like Jezebel counter with baseless accusations of sexism ordinarily seen only in Hillary Clinton political campaigns.

This shit doesn't happen because of lefttard nonsense about "rape culture," or even because only a particular group of people is on the receiving end of this abuse. It happens because as good as the American legal system is when compared to almost every other country in the world, we still have a pretty shitty legal system. There's nothing that can be done to completely prevent power from bringing about special treatment, but there are still plenty of loopholes we can seal without much fuss to greatly improve our legal system and actually bring justice to the victims of flagrant criminals like Cosby.

When he dies, I think that Bill Cosby will be remembered as a celebrated comedian with a tainted legacy. Same thing will probably happen with Chuck Berry or someone like that. I never really cared about him before this, and I don't really care about him now.

I'm gonna have to disagree on this. Not because people haven't done shit as horrible as this before and still managed to avoid complete downfall: Bill Clinton and Henry Kissinger in particular come to mind when talking about America alone. But there are still times when the story of even a powerful figure's crimes overshadow everything else about them in the popular conscience. Barring radical shifts in societal attitudes like what happened with Alan Turning, this sinks everything about said figure to the bottom of the ocean.

For whatever reason or combination of reasons, Cosby's reached this point with most of America. His only hope at any kind of redemption is if he confesses to everything, apologizes, accepts a guilty plea, seeks rehabilitation while in prison, and compensates every one of his victims through his extensive estate.

I doubt this will happen given Cosby's behavior during this scandal, but we'd live in a better world if it did.

I guess that's a point. Come to think of it, America probably feels a little betrayed. He was known as a family man, an inspirational black comedian. Now he's a rapist. A lot of people grew up with The Cosby Show and Bill Cosby himself. I never had any attachment to Bill Cosby, but a lot of people probably did. I think a lot of people felt the same (betrayed) when Hulk Hogan was outed as a racist. Shit like this happens all the time and it can be a fucking bummer.

It sure does suck when beloved celebrities turn out to be awful people
But I wonder if he gets out of jail or whatever (I don't know how the American justice system works) I wonder what will happen to his career and public image? A lot of celebrities have done awful things (the first thing that comes to mind is Chris Brown beating Rihanna and putting her in the hospital. This should have been a career ender but inexplicably it wasn't and his fanbase is mostly young women, disturbingly) and they are still beloved and have careers and it's kind of like as long as you entertained people enough you can get away with anything

He's a 78 year old man with a wildly successful career that's spanned over five decades. My point is that his career is already on the books. If he were as young as the other people you mentioned he might have something to worry about. As for his public image, that damage is largely already done, regardless of the outcome of this trial. The only thing he really has to worry about at this point is jail/prison time and/or civil judgement payouts.

I remeber Bill Cosby from Picture Page and the Mortimer Ichabod marker. I think its likely that Bill Cosby must have sexual assaulted some women I don't know what he will be remeber for likely if he is found not guility then he it will not be so bad but if he is found guility (or dieds before a verdict) he will be remembered for sexual assualts

It is a shame (and I loved Picture Pages as well).

What surprises me is that the SJW have not cried racism on this yet...
Cosby has been a NINO* among SJWs for a very long time now. Since the pound-cake speech at least. Black conservatism, even when organic and intellectually based, is universally despised by SJWs whenever it's combined with some type of Westernism. R-Kelly and Terry Richardson get more defenses from SJWs.

It's a damn shame causes of actual merit will be hurt by their association with Cosby. I'm still wishing this whole atrocity could be tied to Terrence Howard or Allen West or Robert Mugabe, but the world's not so generous.

* I'll give you one guess for this acronym. Aside from you, @Wildchild. I'm giving you a handicap of -9001.

Nonconsensual Imitation-Nigger Operative ?

Cosby's vilest hypocrisy in all this was to preach to black people basically to stop doing stereotypically black things. Meanwhile, he didn't just commit but personified the stereotype of the sexually insatiable black male rapist. He personally set back the causes he espoused by years if not decades.

I know what you mean. He had such a friendly, moral, wholesome demeanor that even if I didn't agree with him on some things, I respected him. I can still enjoy Cliff Huxtable, but he sure had us fooled.

I felt the same way too. Obviously Michael's story is one that could've been different had it went another way once you look into it.
If his dad wasn't such a dick, he'd probably be better off.

In the UK there is a pretty notorious example: Ian Watkins of the band Lost Prophets:
On 19 December 2012, Watkins was charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a 1-year-old girl, and with possession and/or distribution of indecent images of children and "extreme animal pornography", charges which were heard at Cardiff magistrates court. He was remanded in custody as were his two female co-accused.
His old girlfriend tried to tell the police on several occasions but the police just dismissed her as being bitter and unstable while he was trying to groom a fan into letting him have sex with their baby.

Disturbingly he was on a kids Christmas show where he was dressed as Santa and kept sniffing a baby and everyone else on the show was awkwardly laughing and saying what a nice guy he is playing it off as a joke, it's scary to think if he wasn't so blase about it (Literally filming himself boasting) he might still be out there doing it.

Reminds me of a joke. I used to like Lost Prophets when I was a kid, but as I got older, I didn't like them so much.

Who knew they felt the same about me!

That is the same guy who when question about fucking kids said "it was megalolz".

I actually have seen some people rush out to defend Cosby precisely because they see him as another "black man being framed by the white devil". But personally, I'm happy to see the hypocrite called out on his bullshit.
It reminds me of when critics of Bill Clinton were described as " Sexual McCarthy-ites." In each case you have victims who had no recourse to stand up to those accusing them being compared to incredibly powerful men caught committing acts of incredible heinousness against women who were indescribably less powerful than themselves who simultaneously had to fend of nasty definition campaigns against their character, and the rich and powerful had the nerve to both cast themselves as powerless and appropriate the pain of actual victims as their own.

It's outright disgusting. Let's just hope some of this'll be made right by Cosby's incarceration.

Fuck, this could be bad.

BBC News said:
A key piece of evidence in the sex assault case against Bill Cosby has been called into question, according to reports.

An email seen by CNN alleges that a prosecutor promised Mr Cosby's deposition in a 2005 civil case would not be used to bring criminal charges.

In the deposition, Mr Cosby admitted drugging women during sexual encounters but said it was by mutual consent.

The deposition now forms the basis of an aggravated indecent assault charge.

Mr Cosby has denied the charge and his lawyers will now use the immunity claim to get the case in dismissed.

Former Montgomery County district attorney Bill Castor was in charge when Andrea Constand sued Mr Cosby in a civil sex assault trial in 2005, after no criminal charges were brought. Mr Cosby settled the case for an undisclosed sum.

Mr Castor, according to CNN, agreed that Mr Cosby's civil deposition would not be used to bring criminal charges.

However, the current district attorney, Kevin Steele, said there is no evidence of a signed immunity agreement, which would have had to go through agreed channels.

On Saturday, Andrea Constand's lawyer said she never knew of such an agreement, the Associated Press news agency reported.

I'm just glad this is just a bump rather than a dose of polonium. This almost ruined the joy I felt from Dustin Diamond's conviction.

Without a signed agreement, we have no idea what the DA said. If he made some off the cuff comment he personally wouldn't prosecute it, that doesn't bind anyone, not even him.

Also, if Cosby is claiming transactional immunity, i.e. that there was some permanent agreement never to prosecute him, that's pretty much unheard of for a case like this. It's much more likely an agreement would relate to the use of the deposition itself, as the news story seems to suggest.

In that case, it is even more likely the prosecution would be insisting any agreement be written.

In any event, the lesson here for anyone is don't believe anything a DA says unless it's in writing with a signature at the bottom of it and all the other formalities necessary for an agreement.

Though in this case, without an agreement, I think Cosby is just lying as he has in the past.

Suing your rape victims after basically admitting the substantive allegations that you drugged women to fuck them is true.

This is going to go over well.
Didn't Cosby say, that the women took the dope willingly?

It's probably either option B or C.
