Since my previous thread kinda-sorta turned into a soft megathread, and the tech layoffs will continue until morale improves, I think it's better to group them all together.

For those who want a QRD:

Just this week we've had these going on:

But it's not just Big Tech, the vidya industry is also cleaning house bigly:

All in all, rough seas ahead for the techbros.

"Made TypeScript 10x faster." So he made it slightly less shit. Unfortunately, it's still TypeScript.

There's a big revolt brewing in the corporate sector against "bullshit jobs". Can you imagine how demoralising it is to be working your heat out to generate revenue only to have some retard with a rainbow lanyard look down on you who does nothing but have meeting to arrange meetings?

It's not just the free money train derailing but it's starting to bite the Big Four. Can you imagine not being able to tender for a big audit contract that would generate millions for decades because a diversity hire went there as a consultant for a couple of grand to tell them not to say "nigger" in their marketing material?
Cross posting from the SBI thread but we’re seeing nature starting to heal. My sector is about to get hit with a MASSIVE correction as the higher up thought the free money train would last forever and “green line goes up.”

Do I take to Bluesky and LinkedIn and cry? No, I get myself on a bunch of vital projects and get friendly with senior management so when the start drawing up lists my name won’t be on it.
He wrote his own compiler like a white man? Terry A. Davis is looking down from heaven approvingly.

When I see those articles I think "What were their views in 2008 when construction workers were laid of en mass?" Was it, "lol, dey tuk err jerbs, hahahah. silly working class thickos doing a no-skill job" ? Then I have zero sympathy.

The guys who unironically told blue collar workers to "learn to code" are getting finished up as they couldn't code has a delicious irony too it.

And the blue collar workers who have manual trades that can be used in myriad industries, changed industry. These soy-latte-sipping, laptop fags can only seethe on reddit as they cry on their keyboards.
Sucks to be useless, I guess.

I always thought it was especially "on-the-nose" that Amazon has (had?) a service called Mechanical Turk that paid you a pittance for doing simple, repetitive tasks. And then it turns out they were doing a literal mechanical turk for their walk-in-walk-out retail stores. Now an entire company builds itself on the mechanical turk concept. Fucking love it :story:

It's going to be really fun once the proverbial AI wars are over and there's a clear winner (aka Google from the Search Engine wars) and every company that changed their workflows and reduced headcount with AI gets bent over by the AI company who now has to generate an actual profit after blowing Billions (or Trillions) to become dominant in the space.

It's like people just forget how an actual economy works and that AI companies aren't going to operate at massive losses forever.

These megacorps are idiots, but I think a lot of it is encouraged by Indian higher-ups out of spite. Only to realize, oh shit we all reduced workers and now our economy is fucked. AI is a poison pill, and when the bubble bursts in a year or two, it's going to be hilarious. They will try desperately to put that genie back in, but they uncorked it with glee only to experience terror. It is horrifying that the Big 4 are experimenting with it, because we don't fully know if these can become compromised.

The autist in me wants to point out these workers will be in Bangalore and not Mumbai, but that the fact I am unable to experience joy is probably why I am on our AI implantation projects.
Did brown fingers type this post?

“SAAR! SAAR! Mumbai is the financial London of India, Bengaluru is where all the tech companies are Saar!”

;)

All you need to know about India is, that their CompSci graduates aren’t actually the cream of the crop, but just a bunch of jets angry that they couldn’t go to a public university and get a government job, since doing fuck all and taking bribes is the pinnacle of achievement on that subcontinent.

I keep try getting trips to Bangalore as the tech district is meant to have some great bars. Plus an average white guy can boil a hell of a lot of rice with ease over there.
