Are you talking about the interview where he said that he said that the white supremacists were not good but the people who were trying to keep up the statues of Robert E Lee were good? That's literally where the "very fine people" quote comes from.

I Actually heard some dude doing really bullshit fearmongering on some radio thing that was on in the background in a place one time recently but I didn't catch the name of it so i can't look up a clip of it and it's been pissing me off trying to find it because it was funny how fucking doomsaying it was for lack of a better way of putting it. Anyone else have any clue what the fuck that mightve been? So fucking wild hearing that. Most of the time it's just things talking about social distancing or claiming all white people are racist..

Those confederate statues weren't put up until way after the civil war, in an effort to intimidate black people. We should not be celebrating people who wanted to keep black people enslaved. The people who want to do that are not "very fine" people.

Robert E Lee thought slavery was bad for white people, and if your father died in that war, you'd want a statue put up of him too.

If my grandfather died fighting for the right to own slaves, I would not want a statue put up of him. The statues weren't put up until way after the war ended, in a bid to intimidate black people.

Robert E. Lee had the slightest possible attachment to slavery. Gen. Lee fought for, and soon (de facto and de jure in the end) led the armies of Confederacy as his state of Virginia seceded (something he had opposed). Incidentally Lee opposed Confederate memorials as it kept open old wounds.
