Key Takeaways
- Thatcher's Techbase, a Doom 2 mod that lets you descend into hell and defeat Margret Thatcher, has been removed from Bethesda's mod page.
- The mod is still available on PC, but you can't play it on console anymore.
- Don't worry, Thatcher is still dead in real life though.
However, someone had to spoil the fun for everyone and reported the mod to Bethesda. In response, the moderation team removed it from the mod page, citing a breach of its rule against "real-world politics".
Thatcher's Techbase Doom Mod Has Been Taken Down
"The Creation Thatcher's Techbase has been reported for real-world politics and has been removed," reads an email from Bethesda, shared by the mod's director, Jim Purvis.
This comes after Purvis made the mod available via the new Doom + Doom 2 port, which made it playable on console. You can still play the mod on PC, of course, by going through the website. This just means that we have fewer platforms at our disposal if we ever feel like ripping and tearing through hell to take on Thatcher.
You may have heard about Thatcher's teachbase a couple of years back. It made headlines after former Labour leader and current independent MP Jeremy Corbyn played the mod himself. He was said to have enjoyed his time with the game and even posed for a picture with the arcade cabinet running it. So, even if Bethesda doesn't want the game on its mod page, at least it has that seal of approval.
The Doom + Doom 2 port is out now, available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
