If you were to format a computer and install something else, what is the best way of backing up all sorts of data? data such as pictures, some documents, browser bookmarks, etc.

What OS are you running?

Ubuntu with gnome has a tool called DejaDup or just called "Backups" that I've used in the past that works fine. There's also rsync and the GUI version grsync for most other distros. iToddlers have Time Machine

I don't know what Windows has besides gay shit.

There's also always just putting everything you want into a .zip and copying it to an external drive.

You are also probably going to find a better answer to this question in the "No Stupid Questions" thread under the IT board.

Isn't this just built into everything? Your phone has cloud backups, Microsoft has OneDrive that acts as your default documents location. So everything is already backed up unless you disabled this manually. This goes so far as to backup terminal profiles.

But definitely don't pay for this or bother with old shitty third party software. Unless, for some insane reason, you're using Linux on a personal computer.

You could also just use Google Drive, or Proton Drive. But same thing. It's all free and kind of ubiquitous.

Just print out the binary of whatever data you have stored, it should just be a few thousand pages and then after you can conveniently type the data back into the computer. Having that paper copy also allows you to view the data at any time, even in the event of a power cut.

You absolute retard nigger!
We have the technology to scan documents and have them be tokenized back into documents that aren't just concatenated jpgs now, so you don't even need to type it back!
Though I thoroughly advocate for going back to punch cards entirely for that purpose.

I think typing it back in really helps the user appreciate the data they have saved.

Just write it down buddy
The trick is to go into your inventory, and click on the notepad, then drag the notepad to your computer, and click the notepad on the computer.
