Yeah... except for the fact it's not.

Faggots, queers and all those have existed forever. It's nothing new. We know it's more nature than nurture and it occurs even in nature with animals. There will always be about 10% of the population who are gay. The main issue is how many trannies are being created in today's world. There is a small percentage of the population that honestly, due to hormonal reasons when they were being formed, feel they're trapped in the wrong body. And this is genuine dysphoria. I feel for people like these. Imagine you live a life that you don't recognize yourself in a mirror. You don't feel comfortable in your own body because you feel you should have been born with a vagina instead of a penis. It happens but not to the degree that is going on now. This has gone beyond nature and has become a social thing.

When you have kids. And I mean kids that haven't gone through puberty yet saying they want to be a different gender then that's not normal. That's society and the media talking. Young people especially are prone to accepting what they see on TV as being an indication of how to act. So in this sense he's right. But you can't lump all homosexuals and trannies into the same boat and say they're just giving into their impulses because in that sense we are ALL giving into our impulses. The only difference is Ben here has trouble with those and not with what he considers to be "normal".

No we do not. I am gay, but I do not believe for a second that >50% of the reason that I am gay is nature (whatever nature means).

Genes predict only ~8-25% of sexuality.


Genes are not the only "natural" reason you may be one sexuality or the other, but we do not know the ratio of nature:nurture right now (or likely ever), and I highly suspect that, at most, it is 50:50.

Nobody mentioned genes, much less myself and genes aren't the only thing that can change you in that way. After all if there was a "gay gene" then only people who were gay would have gay children. No. I said nature as this happens in nature and for things like identical twins if one twin is gay there's a better than 50% chance that the other twin will also be gay. That is well outside the only 10% or whatever the number is of the population that is gay. There has to be an environmental reason for it and it's believed to he hormonal. Specifically the hormones of the mother while the fetus is forming. It's not the only reason mind you but it's one of the big ones.

I agree that there is no point in having a large discussion. It comes down to how much is nature vs environment (and depending on your definition both likely influence each each), but I do not think we have enough evidence to say that it is more nature than nurture necessarily. We can agree to disagree though because I agree that this is not the place to have the discussion.
