A city mayor has been found dead with his throat cut open in a cemetery in Belgium.

Alfred Gadenne’s death has shocked the country with the prime minister expressing ‘horror’ at the death of the lawmaker.

His wife found the 71-year-old’s body in the graveyard close to his home. He was the gatekeeper and locked the cemetery in Mouscron every evening.

Local news service SudInfo said a suspect had handed himself in to police and that the motive was unclear.

The case was handed to a local prosecutor rather than to national counter-terrorism investigators.

It's a pretty set thing in Europe to not disclose the identity of the suspect if he isn't white anymore.
Such anti racist measure only backfires
 
To be honest, this sounds like suicide.

Until we get deets on the suspect, I think they may be looking for attention. Kebabs don't tend to hand themselves in.

Will be interesting to see if he's going to get a harsher sentence than a kebab that did the same type of crime
