Just days after it was announced Ruby Rose had been cast as Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, the actress has left Twitter. While Rose’s casting was celebrated by many, the news was also met with a fair amount of backlash. For some fans, the decision to cast a non-Jewish actress was problematic, while others felt The CW could have easily decided to give a lesser-known LGBTQ actress a chance to star in the role.

Many stars, including the likes of Arrow‘s Stephen Amell, as well as fellow actress Laverne Cox and singer/actress Janelle Monáe, celebrated Rose’s casting. Unfortunately, their voices were seemingly drowned out by the negative comments flooding Rose’s timeline on the popular social media site.

Additional complaints ranged from The Meg star’s acting not being up to par, The CW not looking for another out actress to tackle the role, and a segment of fans believing Rose hadn’t publicly identified as lesbian, therefore making her a poor choice for the role of Batwoman.

Although Rose didn’t bother to address most of the backlash, she did fight back against the claims that she wasn’t a lesbian in a tweet posted shortly before deactivating her account. “Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from?” she tweeted. “I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with “she’s too gay” how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change.”

Rose has been very vocal about her excitement over the role since her casting was announced. Not only has she called the role a “childhood dream,” but she also went on to say she wished she’d had the chance to see a role like Batwoman when she was growing up as part of the LGBTQ community.

While Rose has left Twitter, she’s still active on Instagram where she continues promoting her latest film The Meg. However, it appears she has since adjusted the comments settings on her posts, possibly in order to avoid the backlash on Instagram.

Rose will portray Batwoman first in this year’s Arrowverse crossover before going on to headline her own Batwoman pilot. The potential series will be overseen by producer Greg Berlanti and written by Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries), who will also serve as the showrunner.

I can't believe this is the kinda shit people get worried about these days.

Proof that there's no winning in the pandering game.

Also further proof, as if we needed it, that social media is garbage.

Holocaust film history is full of non-Jewish actors who have played Jewish characters and vice versa. Why is this suddenly a problem?

Also, even if she hadn't been a lesbian, so what? Has the trans role debate began spilling over onto gay/bi roles now?

If Adam Sandler doesn't update the Hannukah Song every year casting directors don't know who is and who isn't.

When Adam Sandler first released the song David Lee Roth got back together with Van Halen for like 2 minutes.

Maybe they should stop pandering to a small percentage of the population and virtue signaling., because all that side does is REEEEEEEEEE all the time over nothing.

All that harassment over a non-jewish lineage and not being gay enough? The alt-right is sending some seriously mixed signals lately.

Rumor sites say that she's a big meth freak. I can see it, I guess.

Being so insane about your representation is a good way to make sure Hollywood doesn't bother.

Good luck finding your natural red head, practicing Jewish, lesbian actress.

Good forbid someone act.

Edit: Is Black Lightning still segregated, or are they moving him into the Arrowverse?
