I got curious and read up on the lore for 2042.
How come they put a fuckton of energy into the premise of this game and do fuck all with it? It's not exactly original, just USA vs Russia with environmentalism sprinkled on top.

Even so, I'd like to play through it as a campaign. I think it beats whatever bullshit DICE is doing right now.

Fucking live service games, man...

Patch 5.2, which includes the Hourglass rework and Squad Management features, will be rolling out this week. They did include the ability to kick people out of squads, but the wording of it sounds very condescending:

And as people feared, the Stadium will no longer be accessible in the reworked version of Hourglass:

BF4's final DLC did a better job with the "lore" tbh. The maps were colder, you saw early signs of the PAC, and most of the maps centered around research or production facilities for the tech that would be in 2142. 2042 throws all that out the window and just makes no sense in general, especially as a "prequel" to 2142.

Jesus, what in the fuck happened?

Honestly, the whole lore of 2042 could be thrown into the trash and set on fire alongside all the specialist's backstories because it means fuck all when they are having the time of their life with funny quips apparently while the world around them collapses and nations disintegrate.

I probably sound MATI but I think I'm just so floored at how disconnected everything is. It floors me how nothing seems to fit together.

I don't even hate some of the specialists as they are (Notable dishonorable mentions are Sundance. Keep that enby shit away from me. Mackay and his horrible lines and Paik and her barely comprehensible Engrish) but they don't fit into 2042 on account of what 2042 represents.

Except Irish.

Rate me crazy but I kinda love how this game doesn't give care about the lore and has GI Joe levels of energy.

more like fake chinese gi joe called combat joseph...

a proper gi joe battlefield would be fucking ace, but will never happen since cobra commander is too alt-right and the baroness attracts too much of the male gaze. iirc the franchise recently got emasculated anyway...

bad company threw lore pretty much out of the window to do it's own thing with more levity, as did hardline. however if you name your game "2042", clearly banking on memberberries, you fucking better stick to the lore, themes and atmosphere you're building on.

it's also funny no one posted this yet:

so it's OUR fault 2042 bombed and not understanding the dev's genius vision...

DICE also blamed players, for not knowing about how to use the call-in system to help traverse the maps. It's as if they don't know about the vehicle limits, and that the call-in system has a cooldown timer, I think.

If there's one thing ive learned from half life dev commentary. You cant EVER assume your player is going to figure things out without guidance and tutorials.

Now if that's the point and you're making a multiplayer game like hell let loose where you gotta figure things out on the fly or die, cool.

But if you dont put in a tutorial for each class and spell things out, you have no right to complain. Your ENTIRE game is built off being fun to the most amount of people. And if 70 to 80 percent of people say something sucks. it sucks and something needs to change.

to be fair, most battlefield players are either mouthbreathing retards or MLG PRO tryhards. it doesn't help that the franchise tried to cater more and more to both of them, which noticeable started in bf3 (also due to console limitations back in the day) and culminates in specialists now being more or less all the same, because god beware people need to pick a class, play to it's strengths and weaknesses, and team up for maximum efficiency.
trying to ape hero-shooters with "what if instead of 4 classes every player is it's own mini class" isn't the dumbest idea in theory, but it is trying to do it in a game where you let people be self-sufficient rambos for years to entice codkiddies (not to mention a handful of singular specialists in a game of 100 people, because that's what people look for when they play battlefield: attack of the clones).
of course trying to "fix" it doesn't work if it's stuck in absolutely shoddy games like V and then taking the wrong lessons from it.

TLDR: dice is retarded but those swecucks and the playerbase deserve each other...

...and that nobody gives a shit about the other teammates. To this day you can still find players who get in the pilot seat and drive away, leaving the other players behind. Snipers rarely use their spawn beacon too.
What pisses me off the most is when you combine all these factors and the shitty matchmaking system so you join at 1 minute before the game ends and you've spend 99% of it running on an empty field toward the objective.

What the hell is going on in with this game? I seem to see some suggested videos with titles/thumbnails saying it's turned into a milsim.

What's that one map in 2042 with the desert biome and random skyscrapers scattered around? Who thought that was a good idea for an official map? Looks like a poorly made mod.

Somebody tell DICE that people play Battlefield to be their own soldier, not some pre-canned Reddit tier character that won't shut up.

Hourglass? It gets worse in the Breakout mode where the snipers on the attack team can spawnkill players from a distance.

It's clickbait from the portal mode. There was a lot of it when the game first released. Some portal serves would increase damage (and sometimes turn of the HUD) and people would say it's totally just like a milsim (while playing it like it's regular post-Bad Company Battlefield).

Milsim youtubers are a shady bunch tbh.

How is Battlefield a milsim (military sim) series? Yes, there's depth and sniper physics but a military sim is a stretch. It's slower than CoD, yes. But there's still gamey logic that prevents it from being an outright sim.

It's not. The closest it's ever got to a milsim (excluding Project Reality/Realitymod) is BF2, and that's largely because it has the largest emphasis on teamwork and slowest pace out of the other titles in the series. People claiming their hardcore 2042 server is a milsim are typically clickbaiting, or at least stretching the definition as no hud and increased damage is slightly more "realistic" than the base game.

I will say though, a decent number of milsim players (myself included) have some sort of connection to the Battlefield series. It's not a milsim on it's own, but it's somewhat of a gateway drug I guess.
