if you're not too hung up on the military thing it should be fine, you also gotta remember every battlefield takes some getting used to. map knowledge especially is king, I've seen my fair share of people coming into a new game or even map, get stomped, and then bitch and moan endlessly expecting to "pwn" like in they're still in the game they played for 3-digit hours. this is especially true on maps with a lot of dynamic objectives like in hardline, since there are lot more people running around instead of camping next to the mcom and shooting down a corridor in rush.
Actually sounds fun as fuck, didn't know there were dynamic objectives. I'm living in Aus atm so it can be a nightmare to find matches for older games but I assume there'll still be a player base on PC. Cheaper to cos I'm a jew when it comes buying games.

Fair warning, it still uses Battlelog and most of the remaining players are euros.

DICE plans to nerf the shotguns in the next balance patch, even though they are already outclassed by most guns, by making them deal NO damage past a certain range:

Who in the hell even said that BF2042 shotguns were OP enough a longer ranges, to associate a nerf?

Uhh, certain instances where I've had to pull out the crossbow because the 12M Auto completely pooped all over me, after leaving my BSV-M, SFAR, MP9, and M5A3 in the TTK dust.

I guess this is related. Anyone follow the BF3 Reality Mod? Supposed to be inspired by BF2's Project Reality and Squad.
Based on some of the gameplay I've seen of it, it looks like how I thought BF3 should have been gameplay wise. Faster paced than BF2 PR/Squad, but more milsim-y than nu-Battlefield.
It also make me realize how bad BF3's gun sounds were. Too tinny, not enough punch. It's almost like the recorded the mechanism but forgot to record the actual gunshot.

hotwire was the best spin on basic bitch conquest, no one can convince me otherwise (the capture points are cars you have to drive with a certain speed - like the movie - to generate points). you think flying around with a chopper full of mates is the shit? now try a van! basic conquest is still in there if you want it.
blood money is basically 1ctf, grab money from the pile in the middle, bring it to your base. except you can also grab it from the enemy's base as well.
heist is a mix of rush and ctf, criminals need to blow the vault, then take 2 packages back to the extraction point.

there are a few more modes with hostages, but hardly played those since the DLC was literally dead at that point.

sadly the p-stats webpages are also dead, so no more stats how many players play where (back then ps4 had more players I think by a few hundred). battelog website needs a login and I can't be arsed atm, but you can check that yourself if you want: https://battlelog.battlefield.com/bfh

ultimate is currently on sale for 10 bucks, cheapest ever was 8. you could buy the normal version to save a few bucks I guess with the dlc being dead. no point in buying on steam, you need origin anyway: https://isthereanydeal.com/game/battlefieldhardlineultimateedition/info

the biggest irony for me is people hating on battlelog while never experiencing the joy that was the BC2 ingame server browser, which didn't even show pings behind NAT for 2 months. meanwhile I could mod the shit out of battlelog, and any bug was quickly fixed since it could be patched separately - especially great when dice patches all platforms at the same time, enjoy getting stuck with bugs till console certification is done.

although I've heard some grumbling about the current ones in V and 2042, people get what they deserve I guess...

hating on battlelog
Generally speaking the in-game browser is at least functional most of the time whereas Battlelog, if it launches and actually links up with your Origin client, requires you to use Chrome or Firefox.
Emblems are still broken and I don't know if anyone attempts to use the companion app anymore.

never bothered me, worst case I just use a chrome/FF-clone for battlelog exclusively (just like I do for the farms). if you can run battlefield the 100 or so megabyte to run it on top should hardly matter, and even if not just close it. in that regard it's not much different than gamespy or qtracker in the days of old.

If I'm understanding this, the Phantom Bow used to be a secret unlock through several tasks before DICE decided to make it a pickup weapon. Does DICE still do that?

Hotwire was great, goofy action. Blasting music, sabotaging vehicles, doing drive-bys, making jumps, especially the motorcycles.

Loved that too, especially in Hollywood Heights. Watch out for trip mines.

BF2042's 1.2 Patch will be going live tomorrow. Changes include the Kaleidoscope map changes, nerfs to the Stealth Chopper, K30, MP9, M5A1, and Shotguns. The Wildcat will also be massively buffed, so hopefully it can actually take down aircraft for a change.
I'm sure the 2k people playing will appreciate the changes.

I never understood that mode. If you're a cop, you defend. If you're a criminal, you go to a point and wait to deploy or something. Not my favorite, encourages camping.

Hardline tried competitive a la Counter Strike; nobody played it.

Team Deathmatch in Hardline was imbalanced as hell.

Former EA and DICE dev, Jim Hejl, discussed about Battlefield 2042's development in this podcast. Apparently, the UI was so poorly designed, that even a single UI icon would cause massive performance issues.

And in the homestretch of BF2042's development, DICE had as many as 300 people trying to work out the horrible performance issues with the game.
How bad must your UI be to where your game runs like shit?

You can tell 2042 was meant to be battle royale based with sights being interchangeable mid match. A cool feature, I may add.

Has anyone tried the reality mod for Battlefield 3 that came out recently? Basically Project Reality but for BF3. It's still very much in it's infancy but seems to have great potential.
BF3 is one of my favourite Battlefield games. It'd be great if they manage to breathe new life into it.

My only issue with moding old games is that you have to join a group of people that schedule when they play because there's not enough players on naturally to fill a server. There's only 90 people playing BF3 right now on Steam.

Oh yea, BF3 is my personal favorite in the series. I had a lot of fun playing it during 2011.
