21 Kiloton has released his review:

Apparently the guy responsible for the game design and the inclusivity left DICE and went back to Ubishit.
Now THAT review had me thinking more than it had any right to.

National identity, Chinese market, art of war, microtransactions...?

You mean to tell me DICE intentionally sabotaged their franchise for an agenda? Not just bad, but horrifying incompetent.

Apparently, BF2042 sold well enough on Steam during Christmas week, to make it to the Top 10 of Sales for that week. I do wonder how much the free-to-play weekend had an effect on that, and if those players will stick around.

What is the point of the Portal mode now that DICE has removed the progression and put an EXP cap?

doubt it, you can always use some other villain, and 2042 didn't even have a campaign. it's literally just fortnite wearing battlefield as a cocksleeve for monetization and brand recognition, that was the plan all along, nothing else to it.
what I'm wondering is how much of that was EA mandated or dice trying to make money and go back in EA's good graces - as shit as EA may be, all those failures won't go over too well for someone whose just in it for the money, and we all know how EA handles studios that don't bring in the cash.

"you know that old game you liked and had way more content? now you can play the castrated 2042 version of it!"
people are dumb, just look at WoW classic.

tbh that list looks suspect as fuck. there's really no reason for rdr2 to be in the top ten, especially after the online seems to be dead, which means all you'd be left would be a SP most people should've been played at this point. same for the index when there's a rumor that valve isn't happy with it's adoption. it might be a top 10 alright, but considering which factors?

Top 10 meaning sales and possible player engagement. Remember, it's Christmas.

"Look, we've made Battlefield 3, Bad Company 2 and 1942! All great games, now in 2042!"

but that wasn't the first time rdr2 being on sale, not even for that discount. unless there's a large enough mass of people that go "I won't buy it for 33% off, but 50%!" to put it into the top 10. heck wasn't it given away for free on egs at some point?

Imagine if BFV or Vanguard had an operator like this:

Hell, even the nu-Wolfenstien did that.

DICE didn't even bother to add descriptions to the skins. It's clearly as if they're doing the bare minimum, in regards to customization in the game.

And a remake of a 20+ year old RTS game, has more players than BF2042 now.

Reminds me of the fact that 2042 somehow half-assed the Christmas events. A stillbirth game that promotes Christmas events is somehow less festive than TF2's 2021 Christmas update. Nice.

That's how they view Christmas.

FH5 BF2042 Player Count.png

(First number is current player count, second is the 24 hour peak, and third is overall peak)

BF2042's player count on Steam continues to go down, and even dropped below Forza Horizon 5 in current and 24 hour peak counts. And that's even worse, considering that FH5 is available on GamePass. Also, FH5 is available on Microsoft Store and XBOX, in response to the "but BF2042's players mostly get the game from Origin" argument. Granted, BF2042 is also available in the Epic Store, and both PlayStation and XBOX, but the numbers drop is getting more and more grim for the future of the game.

And this is the reward for the Weekly Challenge this week. I don't get how gun charms became popular in terms of gun cosmetics.

The infected game mode? The first time I tried, I ended up on a server where everybody was an elf :story: . The event was not fun at all. Most of the time, people just camp in the church.
Speaking of completely missing the point, DICE gave away another Christmas themed playercard. Yep, they gave a Santa card... after the 25th.
One thing for sure: they won't miss Black History Month and Pride Month in 2022, it's probably already hard coded in the game.

And still no reward for the BF veterans.

Id imagine so, considering how much they've pushed it since its release as something "fresh" relative to its other offerings and series, Killzone has always sorta had the rep of being sorta genero even for the times they all got released (1 and 2 were very much part of the sterotypical brown or grey tinted shooter, 3 tried to shake it up with snow but it released at the end of the PS3's lifespan) considering the general cynical and snarky attitude towards FPS games in some "gaming" circles, id imagine the Killzone games played stright would not fly well with some of the more modern tastes, or be changed to fuck to fit with the dreaded "modern tastes", so i cant honestly imagine it being a good return, imho
Guerrilla Games killed Killzone by accident. KZ 2 sold pretty well, having carved out a somewhat distinct multiplayer identity as "Team Fortress But It's Space Nazis," but it didn't do CoD or Halo numbers. So GG tried to change up the formula in KZ3 by adding features from both CoD and Halo that didn't really fit their core game structure at all, some of it based on forum feedback (always a bad idea). The result was that KZ3's multiplayer was a big step backward from KZ2 in balance, map design, and playability.

Shadowfall was just unfinished. There were large, empty areas in the campaign with weapons lying around, but no enemies, sound effects were missing from the multiplayer, and they significantly changed up the MP formula yet again in a way that was completely unsatisfying.

As if the placeholder descriptions for weapon skins wasn't bad enough...

It's also not a good sign, when the EA Game Director is still trying to figure out what's wrong with the game, and still is in the "planning" phase of fixes.

Think this will go anywhere? I'm skeptical that this will take off at all.

Meh where is an actual Battlefield Clone? Even BF2 wasnt as milsim like as the games people claim it was. I see so much comparisons on Squad of Hell Let Loose are "just like the old battlefield guiz" not trying to say the games are bad but why should I play these games when I came to battlefield for casual combined arms gameplay.

I guess it comes from the fact that the old Battlefield titles were "semi-casual." You weren't forced to mic up and didn't spend half of the match out of combat, but the game kept to a "realistic" tone and wasn't afraid to put restrictions on the player. It seems nowadays anything that falls short of a casual sandbox or competitive shooter gets lumped together.
