TIL there's face paints you can fit for your characters in BFV. I suppose that's a good way to distinguish my female soldiers. War can be ugly.

And the premium currency in BFV CAN be earned through their Tides of War challenges.

It looks like both EA/Dice and Activision has been giving Sony some "credibility transactions", to somehow be voted as a better Multiplayer experience than FFXIV. Although I don't think there were many multiplayer game releases on PS4/PS5 that were note-worthy.

Probably literal participation trophies since Sony doesn't have multiplayer games beyond third party titles.

Well, they did have Killzone and Resistance, but they seemed to have forgotten about them.

Here's the first datamined picture of the supposedly upcoming "Exposure" map:

And when the game gets to the point that even the Dataminers want nothing to do with the game, that's the definition of fucking a release up.

Christ, look at all that empty space. This map is going to be yet another tedious mess.

DICE seems to have found the tech for TDM and made the mode available for a limited time. I don't think the 2042 maps work well with TDM.
The 64-player Conquest mode is way better than 128 players, it actually feels like you're doing something instead of running in an empty field for 30 min.

Did they bother to make the maps smaller to better suit that player count?

On the 64-player game modes, they use the smaller versions of the maps that are used on the older-gen consoles. Unfortunately, the results are mixed, since the 64-player version of Hourglass doesn't include the Stadium.

The 100 Kill Goal for TDM seems a bit on the short side, maybe 200 or 300 Kills would work better.

For them trying to copy CoD, they neglected Ghosts' map design in practice. Remember how those maps were too big for CoD standards?

Playtesting levels and modes suggests that all designers aren't equal and goes against Dice's policies for Justice, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Pretty much, Insomanic who made resistance jumped to Xbone when it dropped, so ps4 didnt get anything from it, and Killzone Shadowfall just kinda dropped and suffered from the pain of being a launch title, and it died quick

Wierd that they have both Starhawk and Resistance to atleast make a side-fps game to atleast have some teeny slice of the Halo pie, but i guess they jumped to Open Worlds and "Cinematic Action Adventures" instead

The Steam player counts for BF2042 continue to decline further and further below BF5, which is becoming more and more of an embarrassment.

The Free Weekend for BF2042 didn't seem to result in a significant player increase afterwards, which is also not good for the future of the game.

Some players have also reported to have been falsely banned from BF2042, and EA refuses to do any actual support in regards to these false bans, that is, if they are actually false. But then again, given how many things are broken in Betafield 2042, it's safe to say that something could have triggered one of those said false bans, whether it's something the player was in control of or not.

And here's a meme BF2042 comic, featuring a pre-nerf Hovercraft:

Come to think of it, how broken was the pre-nerf Hovercraft, in comparison to the other broken things in previous Battlefield games that were later nerfed, i.e. the USAS-12 with Frag Rounds in BF3, and the FAMAS in BF3?

Ironically, I think having an FPS game would be a breath of fresh air for PlayStation at this point.

I can understand Resistance taking a break since Insomniac has so many other IPs to handle (more so since they have Marvel IPs to work on), but was Horizon really that much of a hit to force Killzone onto the benches? I don't care if it's a sequel, prequel, reboot, or a remake, I think Killzone deserves another shot.

Id imagine so, considering how much they've pushed it since its release as something "fresh" relative to its other offerings and series, Killzone has always sorta had the rep of being sorta genero even for the times they all got released (1 and 2 were very much part of the sterotypical brown or grey tinted shooter, 3 tried to shake it up with snow but it released at the end of the PS3's lifespan) considering the general cynical and snarky attitude towards FPS games in some "gaming" circles, id imagine the Killzone games played stright would not fly well with some of the more modern tastes, or be changed to fuck to fit with the dreaded "modern tastes", so i cant honestly imagine it being a good return, imho

Having played some of the 2042 Beta and hating it, then seeing the reaction and having that opinion reinforced, going back to BF4/1/V has been an absolute palate cleanser. 4 especially, it really is everything I liked about 3, but far more of it. Even the shitty battlepack monetisation isn't all that in your face, and you get enough of them by just playing the game anyway.

The sheer amount of content available on these slightly older games blows 2042 out of the water. Look at the sheer number of attachment options for each gun in BF4, it's unreal by comparison. Modern gaming really has gone downhill.
And it hasn't even been a decade yet since that game came out.

I don't know how broken the hovercraft is (never played this new one), but The US transport chopper in BF2 was utterly broken before patching, where you can fill it with players, and really quickly just hop around the map capturing points while having two engineers repair the already ridiculously armored helicopter. They had to make it so that a vehicle only counts as one player for the purpose of capturing a point iirc

You'd think, logically, that DICE would see the sudden spike of engagement with an older title and support it with more content.

Oh, I forgot, this is EA.

They killed off Battlefront II when it was gaining many new players, logic isn't one of DICE's strong suits.

Part of me is glad Battlefront III isn't happening again, I'd hate to see what current DICE would do to it...
