Is the d-pad working for you? That was my first thought but nothing happened. I eventually figured out that the face buttons were what changed it. They correspond to the four corners, so the Y button toggles the sights, B the magazines, A the under barrel attachments, and X the barrels. If you change the under barrel attachment, you have to go back and reselect the sights, but that otherwise seems to work.
Oh, why would I think that a plus symbol would correspond to the d-pad? I gotta stop thinking logically with DICE.

Not gonna lie, I had a much better time with the COD Vanguard and Halo Infinite betas. I remain skeptical of DICE.

Playing Battlefield V's campaign.

The last act of Under No Flag, the first War Story, is unfair and brutal. They send everything at you while you just hold off for relief. Infantry, tanks, planes, rockets, all while you have limited ammo and get stuck in geometry.

Stealth doesn't always work either. It's a RNG game at that point.

I've played maybe 6-8 hours of it so far. Overall I'm impressed with the game so far, but it has its share of bugs. Parachutes don't tend to disappear when people land and give away player positions all the time, map loading bugs occasionally happen where you can't see any points and thus can't play the game, and the revival process seems weird where you don't instantly return to play but either linger in downed state or move for a bit in third-person afterwards.

Gunplay is fun, though probably due to Orbital the ranges are often pretty long. They only get generally closer around B1 and B2, the connecting underground tunnel and the missile launch platform. Oddly, I don't think the sniper rifle has enough range on its scope, but I also didn't use it for long. Spent most of my time on the M5A3 and the DM7.

The AI is also dumb as bricks, as you'd expect. They'll stand there even when they're under fire, often in groups you can string kills off, and when they pilot vehicles like transport helicopters they'll make no effort to defend themselves with weaponry or flares. It feels like they're meant to help journalists and other bad players feel better about themselves, since they add nothing to a player-based match besides numbers.

Other than that, I've enjoyed most of my time In it. Might just be me though; I have zero interest in yet another tired WW2 shooter or in parachuting out of another plane with 63 other randoms to play Hunger Games. Both are boring to me at this point, and going back to matches where team-based frontlines are drawn is refreshing to say the least.

Definitely feels like a return to form from the last couple games. It runs like shit, you can't change your loadout from the main menu, I often run around your map for minutes at a time before getting sniped and having to do it again, and it's generally janky, but there's nothing like parachuting into a contested point as explosions and minigun fire, all real threats from actual players instead of scripted bullshit surrounds you.

I probably wont buy it day 1, but might on sale.

Alright, so I was able to put in some decent time into the beta on a beast of a pc at 1440p, outside of some graphical glitches it runs like a charm. I'm guessing it's just a beta issue. It even runs and looks great on the new xbox x to be honest. Better than what my garbage ass i5-6600/1070 rig can dish up, thing is on its last half leg.

As far as gameplay goes, it's similar to bf3 and bf4, but there's some glaring issues imo:

-Gameplay seems a little too fast and twitchy compared to past bf's.

-Enemies and teammates can be indistinguishable at times.

-Accessibility issues. When I click the button for my medic bag or ammo bag, let me throw them. Why do we have to choose it, hold it, and only then can we to throw it out? It wasn't this way before and the unnecessary extra button click can mean life or death in some situations.

-Lack of attachments. Could be a beta thing but the shitty on the fly attachments mechanic worries me that that's all we're going to get. 3 or 4 sights and 1 or 2 options for other shit.

-AI bots. I'm guessing that won't be an issue on private servers which is all I'll be playing on if I get it. But just a heads up incase people didn't know. I personally think it's fucking retarded. Why sell a multiplayer game only to have people play against the computer? If a lobby can't get filled to peak capacity tough shit.

-Lack of in-depth loadout customization. In bf3 and bf4 we could go into an entire sub-menu to customize every minute detail about our loadout. What's the point of ambition every where else in game but then limiting our ability to customize our loadout? One step forward, two steps back springs to mind.

-Where's the communication wheel?

-For the love of fucking God, the ping system. How and why did you fuck up something that just worked? Why?

Otherwise it's alright, I liked it, didn't love it, but liked it. Already a better game than whatever fucking garbage Activision is going to shit out for the umpteenth consecutive year. If nothing else be happy we have Halo and Battlefield as options this year if you're looking for a mainstream multiplayer shooter and are tired of the dross the CoD franchise keeps putting out.

-Enemies and teammates can be indistinguishable at times.

That's my biggest issue so far - I berated my friend for continuously shooting at or jumping around allies but when I spent enough time on it they are VERY difficult to distinguish, especially when they're mercenaries and there's no visual difference between US and Russian groups of the same specialists. Even when I'm waiting for a revive you can't tell who is a good guy or a bad guy since some people just don't revive at all. They really need to alter the uniform a little to make it easier.

-Lack of attachments. Could be a beta thing but the shitty on the fly attachments mechanic worries me that that's all we're going to get. 3 or 4 sights and 1 or 2 options for other shit.

If you're saying an overall pool of attachments for each gun will only be 3 or 4, it HAS to be a beta thing. If they don't, it will basically be as limited as Crysis multiplayer and will lose out to its competition easily. Scopes, foregrips and the like are shooter crack and leaving them out makes an "improved progression system" non-existent. It's likely they'll let you map your favourites from a customisation menu before you go in.

Speaking of, there's a bug I noticed at least in the PS4 build - The hybrid scope doesn't work unless you change a particular attachment between each life. For me it was the barrel, for my friend it was the ammo. Definitely needs to be fixed.

I honestly think this game will be good by late or mid 2022, after DICE LA picks up the garbage fire they will probably make a bust out of a pile of shit, same as they did with literally every battlefield since 3.

I really miss Battlefield 2. Would be nice if more people played it. The revived servers are fun though!

the biggest irony for me is that is what people gave titanfall 1 shit for and respawn went full retard based on the feedback, yet here we are.

because people complained. "waah recon can just sit in the back spot people the whole time that's why I get killed". combine that with dice' inability to ever balance anything properly (like limiting it to squads only) it's either all or nothing. same reason suppression isn't really a thing anymore either.

even if they do it won't matter since you can bet they gonna sell cosmetics, so even if they give everyone different colors at some point the average match is gonna look like a clown college.

because options are more work, so it's good for lazy devs and less for hacks to fuck up. less amount to design, less amount to balance and if you complain dice will just point to the statistics of the majority of players using the same gun with the same attachments, so what you're basically asking is for is shit to grind you'll never use anyway.

apparently LA is working on the portal, meaning you're supposed to buy 2042 to play the same game you already can...

Played a few games of the beta on PS5, my experience definitely didn't seem as bad as some people's in regards to glitches and shit but it all felt very by the numbers and safe.

The specialists felt dumb, it was weird being killed by a guy on the enemy team only to then be revived by the exact same guy but on my team. The medic ladies syringe gun seemed useless and the extra health from her revives didn't seem to make much difference outside of immediate combat because you could just heal up anyway. The gun turret guy also didn't seem too good, saw a bunch of turrets being placed but not never got killed by one, this might be just because people don't know good spots for them yet though so idk. Didn't see many of drone guy so can't comment. I mainly played grappling hook guy and he was fun.

Movement is a step back from BFV, you can't go prone on your back, you can't climb up stuff anymore and you also can't run while crouched. Why would they remove those features? They were literally the only positive things BFV brought to the series.

Overall it's not good, not bad, just soulless.

I was watching The Act Man play the game on his Xbox Series X, I didn't know it was that bad on consoles.

I've encountered a bunch of visual glitches, like the sky turning brown and pilots appearing outside choppers.

Even for a "three months old beta", the game feels sloppy. For comparison's sake, I didn't encounter anywhere near the amount of bugs in the alpha & beta for Vanguard or the Halo Infinite flights (in fact, both games had clean appearances and functioned consistently). After the way Battlefield V turned out, I don't want to imagine how this game will fare at launch.

I really enjoyed it for the most part. It's the first nu shooter that i've enjoyed in awhile, performance wasn't good at all and my framerate would get worse the longer i played, but my major beef with the game is the specialist system, i hate the hero/operator system that they do nowadays with retarded ass backstories and lore and shit, i'm cool with the weapons not being class restricted but the gadgets fucking need to be, there's way too much lonewolfing and little to no no teamwork, it doesn't help that Dice were stupid enough to not have different specialists for US and RU so it's just endless clones of the grapple dude and fuckin grandma running around

But hey at least in the full game we'll have portal, i'll be living in those servers that have 2042 maps with BF3 factions

Remember that EA is developing a mobile Battlefield as well. A theory I have is that EA/DICE is using a similar build for mobile phones, that's why 2042 has all these visual oddities, performance hiccups and missing features.
