Proposal: If the Dodgers insist on playing Randy Newman's aggressively-anti-LA "I Love LA" after home wins, they should be forced to be play the equally-aggressively-anti-LA track "Carmelita" after home losses. I prefer Warren Zevon's version, but dealer's choice.

Holy shit what an awful fucking game from the dodgers

I don't follow baseball, but I watch Bat Bros clips simply for the sounds. That glass-like chime of metal bats is especially pleasing to the ears.

The Rockies just finished beating the A's 23-9 in Vegas. Willie Castro went 4-6 with a pair of homers and 7 RBI, and Hunter Goodman went 5-6 with a pair of homers and 5 RBI. Colorado ended up with 24 hits with only two starters not having multiple.

Hey, my Jay's blew another game. What're the odds - look I'm only surprised Hoffman wasn't the Closer, but how fucking bad is our Bullpen that we keep giving up massive amounts of runs late game?

Why do I continue to cheer for this fucking team...

The worst luck a pitcher can have is having to play any of these juiced ball games lol

Can someone give me a rundown on wtf is going on with ESPN and MLB? I thought they were giving up on baseball but they’re the Merchant of Record for MLB.TV and now I’m having to watch an exclusive Dodgers game on ESPN with two commentators bored out of their minds. What the hell happened?

This year's pride events are going as expected.

Who would have thought that having a league completely of red state American men and latinos would lead to backlash when you try to force them into rainbow uniforms?

I have a feeling it will be quietly axed by next year. It was already very low key this year and it still blew up in the MLB’s face.

Speaking of, the beta journo bitches are kicking up a fuss:

Giants taking coward’s way out on Pride Night hat fiasco | Opinion

It's been four days since three San Francisco Giants pitchers – Landon Roupp, JT Brubaker, and Ryan Walker – all defaced "Pride Night" hats with two different Bible verses from the Book of Genesis. Meanwhile, a fourth pitcher, Sam Hentges, refused to wear a Pride Night hat at all. Honestly, given what his Giants teammates did to their hats, it says a lot that Hentges somehow looks the "best" in this situation for not wearing a Pride hat in the first place.

To clarify, the Bible verses used here are centered around the queerphobic belief that the rainbow, a classic and evergreen symbol of LGBTQ+ unity and pride, actually and always belongs to the Christian religion's god. No matter what. It is a common tactic by some Christian leaders to "reclaim" the arch of colors.

Let's make this blunt. This outward display of hatred toward queer people, being defended by the shameless, thin guise of "religious beliefs," as predictably explained by Roupp after the fact, is unacceptable. And to do it as representatives of San Francisco, the most LGBTQ+-friendly city in the United States?

Absolutely shameful.

Even worse, the Giants, as an organization, are still effectively no-commenting on the controversy. This looks especially bad when even MLB issued a warning, albeit on delay, about how the Giants players' writing on their caps "violates our rules." Publication SFGATE did reach out to the Giants to talk about the issue further. The Giants' response? Uh, no one can talk right now.

How reprehensible. More from SFGATE:

SFGATE reached out to the Giants, asking for an interview from an organization representative about the fallout from the Pride Night events. The team said, “No one is available at this time,” and instead sent over only the statement they distributed in the immediate aftermath of Friday’s game.
That cookie-cutter statement is, of course, a milquetoast "both sides" defense that sees and hears the pain of LGBTQ+ people insulted by athletes getting the wonderful privilege to play for one of San Francisco's most beloved cultural institutions, but does nothing to address their actions. There is, quite obviously, nothing in it to dissuade Roupp, Brubaker, and the like from pulling an embarrassing stunt like this again:

“The San Francisco Giants are proud to support Pride Night and the LGBTQ+ community. Baseball should be a place where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued,” the statement reads. “We also respect that individuals may make personal choices about participating in team activations. We understand that the choices by individual players has caused pain and anger to many in the LGBTQ+ community and we are sorry for that. Those choices do not change our organization’s commitment to inclusion, belonging, and creating a welcoming environment for all. We remain grateful to our fans, partners, employees, players and coaches who help make Pride Night a meaningful celebration.”
Unless the Giants' pitchers face some sort of material punishment or discipline for this situation, the "sorry for that" embedded in this glorified word salad rings hollow. Allowing them to soldier on as if they crossed zero lines is also in direct conflict with the stated "commitment to inclusion, belonging, and creating a welcoming environment for all." It makes saying that sound like the Giants are lying to our faces while hoping this Pride Night hat fiasco simmers down over time. It is the organization taking the coward's way out at the worst possible time.

To be explicit about what Pride Month is supposed to mean and why sports teams like the Giants host themed events centered on it, it is a celebration. A celebration, to be clear, of queer people who have historically been marginalized. It is giving them one solitary month when they finally get more of the spotlight and are, hopefully, championed in a heterocentric culture at large that is still prominent and visible 24/7, 365 days a year. It is supposed to be 30 whole days of making a concerted effort to tell queer people they are loved and that they belong when they so often hear the opposite. It is not a means to supplant anyone, but rather to give everyone an equal footing of acceptance.

The Giants are supposed to be a pillar of a place that gives swaths of queer people a safe haven. They are supposed to lead everyone here by example during Pride Month. By still doing nothing to address the despicable actions of these Giants pitchers, they are dropping the ball and letting down their community in the process.

Just in case you need to know what this paragon of virtue looks like:

Counterpoint: I wouldn’t be as remotely annoyed with your, “deeply held beliefs” if you did it every day à la Tim Tebow. It seems awfully performative and snowflaky to only do it under these circumstances.

So they leave it alone until theyre forced to do something that's against their beliefs?

Whoa shocking

For anyone screaming about a salary cap, I invite you to watch Kyle Tucker “play” Baseball.

Spending money on a roster doesn’t do jack shit.
