Both overcame pretty stiff competition in the LCS to get there. My brain is saying it's a toss-up. My heart is saying Rangers in 6 to finally get their first Commissioner's Trophy.
Honestly, the Diamondbacks vs, Rangers World Series matchup should be the most talked about game for MLB and the series as a whole. I don’t even remember the last time I ever thought the Arizona Diamondbacks would be in the World Series, since every time I think of them, I just remember the time Randy Johnson did this:
Either way, as much as I had wanted to see the Baltimore Orioles in the WS, I wish good luck to both of these teams. For the first time, I actually don’t know who would win in a seven series matchup.
Rangers lineup will be too much for Dbacks pitching but the Rangers only have two solid pitchers in Montgomery and Eovaldi. I expect them to struggle when it moves past them. As a result I say Rangers in 6.
As an embittered Phils fan, I also think that people focus too much in stats and data to remember that baseball, like all sports, relies on luck, and I think they blew all theirs on the regular season and the Braves.
Hopefully next year goes the same and ends better.
Wasn't just the closer. Swinging for the fences at every at bat (which admittedly is a league wide problem) might work when your bats are hot, but when they cool down (which they did after the Phils went to Arizona) you need a plan B, in this case, "situational hitting". I was cringing during the last 2 games of the series watching one Phillie after another try to hero ball their way back into the game. The ending of that series was unfortunate from a Philly perspective, but not surprising considering how they approached their offensive output.
Just found out the last time the D-Backs were in the World Series was back in 2001 when they faced the NY Yankees. For some reason, it made me remember the fact this game also existed:
The coincidence comes in when this cover star is also a player for the Arizona Diamondbacks by the name of Luis Gonzalez. I remember that the series used to be called Triple Play, before it changed into MVP Baseball.
Now I’m wondering if anyone played this one, because to my knowledge, this is the only time I’ve ever seen a Diamondbacks player on a baseball video game cover since then.
I boycotted that 2001 World Series because of the 9/11 shit the media was laying in so thick, it felt rigged as fuck. When I found out about Byung-hyun Kim, who had been amazing that year, completely fall apart in Yankee Stadium, I felt justified in my boycott.
