I am very skeptical about this.

Hasbro/WOTC doesn't have the kind of money just laying around to fund the development of a game as massive as Baldur's Gate 4 (assuming they're trying to emulate BG3 in scope).

Additionally, and more importantly, WOTC does not have an in-house developer to make the game for them. You can't just magic a cRPG out of thin air - Larian is an established, experienced studio and even they said the development of BG3 was grueling and challenging because cRPGs are very difficult to make.

So, either WOTC is going to hand over development to someone else, begging the question who exactly, considering there's not that many cRPG developers with enough manpower to support such a project, or they're going to need to start hiring a lot of new people for a project WOTC has absolutely zero experience or institutional knowledge of.

I'm not saying it's impossible, the popularity of BG3 is likely a big temptation for WOTC to try again, I just can't figure out how they're supposed to develop the game.

The latter is how Amazon tried to bruteforce their way into the MMO market with New World. Even with their billions, you can imagine how well that went. (Spoiler: not very)

It would be funny to see WOTC try similar with 10% of the budget.

With all the woke shit they got away with in BG3, because of the blind normal fags and the fanboys defending BG3 like their life depended on it. You can just expect they will go totally nuts with their woke shit in BG4.

Be afraid. The rumor mill says BG4 is in the works by *thunderclap, organ sting*
  • WOTC
  • Under the tranny director for Dilation Age: Veilguard's direction
This feels like fanfic to keep people talking about Veilguard. Expect the “rumor” to develop and include people from Dustborn, Starfield, and maybe Concord.

I find this unlikely due to how on the nose this is. Also WOTC and tranny director are not developers, and there'd have to be a company attached to develop the game in order for there to be a game director. Just sounds fake.

Larian said no, but WoC could, maybe outsource it, but that may be legally too expensive. You'll need an IP lawyer to figure it out. A competent one, not LAWPOPE.
I'm not sure what they need an IP lawyer for. WOTC owns the IP in its entirety. The only question is whether they'd be allowed to develop on this specific Larian-only engine, and it's likely they will be allowed to, just probably for a fee or needing to pay Larian for support if they need help.

I'd been slacking off on playing my 5th game, no good reason life just got in the way. I didn't want to leave my lil' gold dwarf and her companions gathering dust in the Shadow Cursed Lands so I played a bit, dealt with He Who Was, entertained and survived drinking with Thisobald Thorm, found some cool shit here and there, Found Arabella (and her parents) and it never stopped amusing me what an amazing resting bitch face my character has going on, no matter what she's doing.

So, anything recent about this game? Last I heard, Larian was still working on getting race mods fixed up for this game; what're you guys curious about?

12 new Subclasses coming sometime in April (I'm guessing but seems likely) with Patch 8: Larian Initial Post Steam

Definitely holding off getting back into the game until Patch 8 comes out. Some of the classes look like a lot of fun.

I tried this game out on the recommendation of a good friend so we could co-op it.

I honestly can't stand it. The voice acting is good and the story seems serviceable. But 5e seems like a terrible vehicle to set a video game to. Without a DM to fudge rolls for or against the player to keep combat interesting, fights are either absolute rolls or complete shitshows because you missed two attacks. With the addition of a decent portion of content locked behind skill checks, the RNG of standard DnD rules feels like it wants you to save scum your way through the game.

This is not even bringing up the fact that the multiplayer is just not very good. I don't know why after 14 years SWTOR seems to be the only game to tell a multiplayer story well. There is no way for other players to interject or vote for dialogue choices, and the multiplayer system seems very buggy, we had to reset 3 times in our first 5 hours.

As far as mechanics go, Larian has been very faithful to the source but I think that faithfulness hurts the game.

I heard swtor went down the pozhole finally with a maintenance mode team of tumblr devs.

I played it years ago, it was fun. Sad to see it go like this.

It does get much better in the midgame but yea the first region is just an endless loop of critical roll failure! Miss, miss, miss, miss, critical roll failure!

I actually downloaded that and tried to play a few weeks ago because it's free and I felt like trying something new. It looks nice, but it reminded me why I don't play mmorpgs. I had forgotten how unappealing they are (to me personally, i know many people who love them). It was a learning experience however. Now, I'll remember this event next time I'm tempted to DL another free mmorpg.

Despite all the woke shit BG3 still did very well with hardcore gamers because the wokeshit was ancillary.
I felt like they did the woke shit the right way. It was like they made the decision early on to say, "Here's some faggot npcs... PC can date whatever party member you want... Here's some npc at the end of the game that announces he's a tranny or some shit... Now we can get back to telling a real story." They threw that bone to the faggot bloggers and game journalists who bitch all day about video games not fulfilling their current year fag quotas, but they didn't dwell on any of those aspects. Instead, they focused on the story and the characters. I know some think they leaned too deep into the woke shit, but I didn't really feel it. I hate that type of shit but it wasn't blatant or constant enough to take me out of the experience.
