I really hope they make a patch to somehow add a reason story-wise to have both Halsin and Minthara as companions. I found a fun cheat to get both of them (basically just knock Minthara out instead of killing her in act 1) and it's been fun - however their tents are obviously in the same spot at camp so they just look like reluctant roommates.

This isn't a cheat. Larian purposely patched the game to make this possible because players wanted it. Granted, it is still weird that they share the same spot at camp. Sometimes makes it difficult to talk to Minty since she'll sometimes be kneeling down and blocked by Halsin's huge frame.

Clearly I don't play enough lol, I'll take that as a good thing

Funny bug I ran into. Did Iron Throne without Wyll. Saved everyone. Afterwards, Wyll wanted to speak with me and he was acting like we were still there:

"Um, Wyll? Your father is standing right over there. He is fine."

I should have just picked "Leave." and seen what happens.

"Yeah, yeah. Going to walk literally five steps away and 'save' your father who is still standing right over there..."
Wyll's dialog after the Iron Throne is fucked six ways to Sunday. Poor guy must have taken a hit on the head during my run, he couldn't remember whether he had agreed to become Duke Ravengard or not.

Wasn't Halsin imprisoned by the Drow for half a decade? I couldn't think of a worse tentmate for him.

Like save-grove Minty, he was only made playable due to player pressure. I only wish evil runs would get a Grymforge duergar or this gobbo
as companion to join us as they hate the Absolute too.
On the topic of Grymforge, don't try to merk isolated guards, as it'll turn the whole area hostile.

The meta reasoning was that originally, Halsin and Minthara was on mutually exclusive paths (the attack the grove decision). The ability to get both was patched in, but Larian was apparently too lazy to separate them.

I don't get why they needed to support this tbh. Do people really enjoy collecting both her and Halsin that much? Halsin is boring as sin, and while I can see why Minthara appeals to some, she doesn't quite fit a "good" playthrough.

And yeah, +1 to having that gobbo as a companion. A devout adherent of Maglubiyet would be a hoot to bring around.

On top of being extremely dull Halsin is outclassed by Jahira in pretty much every single way so there's not really much of a point in rolling him unless your doing some sort of character specific roleplay run.

Minthy is worth picking up purely because of just how good Paladins are in 5E, even if divine smite isn't a guaranteed crit anymore.

I went with Halsin as a romance because he was the only male character who wasn't emotionally damaged and/or committed to another woman. Ironic given that he's polyamorous.

On that note, I still don't quite understand the Thaniel/Oliver thing.

He's a worse druid, but makes a pretty good Spirit Guardian cleric with his bonus movement. That movement bonus is doubled by Dashing/Click-Heels so he can pretty much catch an entire fight with his aura.
Likewise, Minsc keeps his "Boo" summons even when not a ranger, so it'd make more sense making him a barb.

I was about to say Wyll, but he's pretty much owned by Mizora.

Speaking of Halsin, is he actually required for cleansing the curse in Act II or can you do it without him? That'd be like the sole reason I'd ever keep him around in future play throughs.

Halsin's my side piece but he stays at camp because when I had him in the party I caught myself being too overprotective about letting him get injured to use him for anything. Had the same problem with Shart at first, but she was too useful to bench and she's tough so it wasn't a problem for long.

I also can't figure out the Thaniel/Oliver shadow curse thing. I did the stuff the game told me to and got the tree turning gold as I walked off into the next act, but I have no idea what happened. lol

Yes. I accidentally let Halsin die during a goodgirl playthrough. When I woke Art Cullagh, he basically said "No Halsin? That's it, we're fucked" and the quest marked as complete.

Decided to do an honour mode run today. Arabella and Mirkon died, so no ring from Mol. I get the teifling kid hate now. They have annoying voices and boast about Mol whose a little bitch. Still stole the idol anyways.

I tried to get Svartlebee's Woundseeker without aggroing the flaming fists, but failed and now Florrick is dead. Since I couldn't get the electric staff Gale gets to be a divination wizard now. Still find myself spamming cantrips instead of using spells though.

Decided to clear the under dark first to get Barcus at the teifling party. Honour mode is really fun. Since some NPCs are dead, I have to use items that I normally wouldn't use.

I wasn't brave enough to chance it on HM, so I just waited until after I got the sparks staff , and when they were starting to head out before a sneaky Command Drop. That aggroed the fists, but only temporarily.
You are right about how bad results can give new adventures, there are hundreds of fun combinations people just ignore because they are suboptimal.

I'm also doing an honor run game. I just got past moonrise towers. I tried to do that Minthara trick where you knock her out but I think the quest glitched out so I couldn't save the Tieflings despite all three bosses being dead, but then I did Shadowhearts quest and moonrise got invaded so I couldn't do the dungeons so Minthara is dead too. Also since I didn't get Halson the forest is still cursed. I also failed a roll to stop Lae'zel and Shadowheart from fighting so Lae'zel got her brains smashed in, so I also killed all of the other gith (like they didn't have it coming). All the bad guys are dead too though so thats good.

I am a paladin. I have no dark urge. I have not fallen.

Must be doing something right.

I get the teifling kid hate now.
A buddy of mine was forced into a position where he ended up murdering all the Tieflings at the grove because of this. A guard confronted him after Mol complained. He lost the Persuade roll when the guard confronted him and the entire Tiefling camp went hostile. Because it was HM, he couldn't walk back that dice roll and had to commit to killing the TIeflings.

Thanks, Mol.

What does that ring do anyway? I recall it had no enchantment or stats to give.
