Larian just released a bunch of stats about the game. People all shocked that Astarion doesn't even break the top 3 romances :story:

I can tell why right away: he's harder to romance.
In my first playthrough every party member was pretty much throwing themselves at me (specially gale) except for Astarion, his approval was always close to the middle, it was a good-neutral playthrough. Meanwhile in my evil playthrough his approval is super high before even finishing act 1 and thats mostly because I went out of my way to increase it (Heard there was a stat increasing potion but getting it tanks his approval).
Also add the fact a bunch of his scenes did not trigger due to not long resting enough or maybe others taking priority.

Honestly Astarion was a pleasant surprise since I expected him to be Gay: the character yet he ended up being a complex character with an interesting storyline. Shame a lot of people can't look past "omg pretty bishounen vampire"

I was playing a Rogue and got his approval rank high fast while still being good by doing a lot of Deception/Persuasive rolls. Also occasionally with the more “smarmy” responses to characters.

But yeah, he’s a great character I respected him as a Bard while I was a thief and almost never took him off my team just because I enjoyed his comments and everything.

I'll admit, I do like Shadowheart. I kind of find Karlach's antics to be kind of cute too. Shadowheart seems like she would be a trade wife, meanwhile Karlach is kind of like that large and in charge woman who would be trad, but would probably like to fix cars or work out. Now if only my fiancée had a trad husband to romance...

Whats trad about shadowheart? She didn't strike me as a traditional wife.

Nah he is not harder to romance, let him suck your blood and pat his back to make him burp after and he will rip the clothes of your body. He is similar to Shadowhearth where he is open to advance the relationship after certain story/personal quest events. If you keep in mind that he values power and self preservation above all else he is easy to please.

I think most gamers playing this game are white hetero males in the age bracket of 20-40 who rather stab a uppety gay rogue between the eyes than invest time in him. Most times Astarion find his demise is at the first camp event or sold to the witcher(like i did). If he was instead a 50 year old female with a raspy smokers voice and the patron of a whorehouse it would be romance number 2.
I agree with you that the whole vampire personal quest line is one of the most enjoyable and interesting if not the most. To bad he is disapproving of most of my dialog choices, otherwise i would change him with the river-dancing nigger in a heartbeat, who is very, very, boring.

Did anyone else check the crystal ball in The Devil's Fee after killing Raphael? It shows Mephistopheles, his dad, about to eat him. Fucked up. Really fun fight btw.

The Iron Throne, on the other hand, can suck a fat one. I went through that shit at least eight times trying to get everyone out alive and just couldn't do it. I think I only lost two of the Gondians but it was still frustrating. Damn Sahuagin.

Yeah I play as mostly neutral good and didn't have too much trouble, he likes it when you pass Deception and Persuasion rolls. Despite my initial fears, you don't have to be a total dick to gain his approval. Not judging him for being a vampire and letting him feed on you are two of the easiest ways. But I also followed a guide to make extra sure; Astarion's morality isn't black and white and he does support a few good options, like feeding and petting the owlbear cub.

I barely used wyll in my first playthrough and he is not available in my second playthrough since I destroyed the groove , but I came across a thread claiming Wyll is boring and then I began thinking about how the other party members I didn't use that playthrough (Karlach and Gale) had interesting personalities, storylines and moments which made me go out of my way to complete their personal quests. I still did Wyll's questline but my god he is bland, how can you make a guy who sold his soul to a devil and is the son of a noble so damn boring? Was he a late addition or afterthought after they realized there were no black characters?

I would say it is easy if you use haste and trap the sahuagins with the doors but even then I struggled to get everyone out: the first time I played very badly but still managed to save the duke, omellum and a few gondians. I later reloaded to see if I could save everyone, even using the smoke detector trick i read about online yet I struggled to get 2-3 gondians on board despite hasting them, had to savescum HARD to get them in, think I ended up using two casts of dimension's door or omellum to get them on board.
I bet the devs knew how obnoxious that was and thus decided against adding an achiement for saving everyone.

Now the one segment that legit made me upset was the forge, for the following reasons:
-I sneaked in from the roof and ignored the gondians on the first floor, thus they died, the ones in the basement got all killed and using speak dead I was told only the blind guy could destroy the place, who i remind you was already dead.
-I arrived to moonrise AFTER freeing nightsong and so all the gnomes despawn/are killed, meaning no gnomes to help me in act 3 DESPITE HELPING ALL OF THEM IN ACT 1
Now I had to reload and save the gondians on the first floor of the forge so I may be wrong about this: but if you do both things I mentioned above you're left with no way to disable the steel watch.
For all the "larian thought of everything!!!!" Thats a pretty shitty oversight, again I may be wrong but is not like I went around murdering every npc who could have saved me.
I hope the definitive edition brings changes to the forge segment since it is so poorly done

Something I found out by accident is you can use spells to shoot open switches. In my case, I summoned a few extra allies to do the attacking, used that one spell that lets you make two portals with both Gale and Wyll(stuck them both on either end of the hallways with the most prisoners), and sent my PC who had the longest movement after the guy in the bottom corner. Got every prisoner out in like 3 turns.

Dimension Door, summons and Enhance Leap pre-buff for all. Haste spores on the ladder helps too. Knock scrolls to help with the locks to Omeluum if you're not a lock picker. Omeluum is hardest but he can teleport both of you straight to the cockpit once he's free. Two people head for the Duke, one heads back to the centre once the route is clear to help with south path were the fish spawn. If Mizora gets involved heal up the duke or just dimension door him the fuck out of there. Air Myrmidion on the fish spawn is good because they're wet and get shocked easy.

They rewrote him last minute. He was very different for the past three years of early access, new voice actor too. He was a charlatan originally, constantly bigging up his reputation as the Blade of Frontiers and hated the ever living fuck out of goblins. He had a bunch of interactions with the goblins you meet in act 1, one of them was the one who cut out his eye. In those interactions he's butt into the player character's dialogue with his massive temper and demand to take over. Then in camp afterwards he'd get drunk and apologise, before returning to bigging himself up as a massive hero. He was also able to use his eye as a mobile to contact Mizora, who we never saw, but it was established that she'd been taken to Moonrise and he was desperate to get there so he could sever his pact. He initially lied to the player about this, but with enough like meter he'd open up about it. It was also strongly implied that he was fucking Mizora. There was other stuff too, like he'd been kicked out of the Flaming Fist when he was young and that his father was a crook.

Basically he was a massive fuck up of a warlock, and about ten times more interesting than what we got. People hated him though because he wasn't a hawt vampire twink, and they didn't seem to get that he was supposed to be a bit cringe. Bear in mind (apologies) that these are the same people who petitioned HARD for Halsin to be romanceable, giving us the second most boring companion. Generally throughout early access the companions were more evil (apart from Lae'zel who changed the least) and it was kind of assumed we'd get five good aligned companions on full release. What we got was Karlach, Halsin, Jaheira and Minsc and most of them are only in the end game. Gale and Shadowheart were made nicer, and Wyll just became a nothing burger.

Arcane Gate was the portal spell I was describing. Had to look up the name.

I'm not sure if they patched it out, but dropping a potion of flight in between all your party members gives EVERYONE flight.

The closest to trad is the drow Minthara.

She does admit her family sitaution is bad, which is very self aware for a drow.
She has a /r/nice guys moments if you reject her after the massacre at the grove. She calls you wothless and say people would have killed for a crumb of her pussy back home.
She's the only companion to be fully antagonistic and mean if you cheat on her.
The other and dissapointed or snarky and some are even okay with you choosing someone else.

Minthara roasts you and your new lover ultra hard.
Like if you change your mind and choose Karlach , she says Karlach will die, you will grieve and you will be alone.

I really dont like her face, very manly and chiseled so instead of trad she would be a chad?...i am not overly familiar with drow femal facial features but she is kind of that uncanny valley. I rather have the frog who is borderline comical, the King of Pop nose cracks me up every-time.

Yes thats the area i went the Wemod way, after much tries and wanting to feed every prisoner to the sharks i decided its not worth my time and i cheated that whole area. Went almost ballistic when Wyll`s lady demon showed up and went: Teehee i am gonna be a sore loser....fuck you.
