Not all the details have come to light yet, but naka blames oshima for the quality of balan. Artzest, oshima's company, likely felt no obligation to put up with naka's insane management style nor did they see any sense in making a one-button 3D platformer: remember, this was a commission job from Square Enix, one of the biggest players in the whole world, and that artzest is seen as a D-rank studio at best. They would not have blown off the chance to get that much clout/a chance to show off their capabilities to other studios for further work unless programming under naka was completely intolerable.

As far as I am aware a one-button platformer has never been done in 3D at all, so naka had no foundation to support this lunatic decision during the early development phase but forced artzest to obey him anyway.

I fully support your decision to create a careercow thread on this sad shell of a man. Christ, I didn't realize he had children-how do you even face them after leaving your only source of revenue over petty reasons, after your own studio botches every title it throws out, fucking up your last chance with a major publisher, and now getting hauled off because you thought you were too clever to get caught in one of the most transparent trading stints ever?

I'm serious about that last part, Dragon Quest is Japan's favorite series-was he really so stupid as to think that Square Enix and Aiming would not be keeping an eye out for any unusual stock purchases amongst their employees? God damn, the ego on this man despite having done nothing meaningful in his entire career.

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think this would have hurt SE in anyway, it was probably just a 100% greed move that he did because he thought he could get away with it.

Again, correct me if I am wrong but I don't think SE would have access to this information as I assume Naka's portfolio would be private. No idea how he was actually caught though.

I think making a thread on Naka is worth a shot, even if it gets shoved into lolcows of history immediately, I still think his history deserves to be preserved in a nice, convenient read.

Oh, I forgot he was involved in that trainwreck too. They've been working together for so long that this is like a Ceech and Chong break up moment.

The story behind the development is sad, they thought they were making the first 3D plaformer ever, nothing like it existed when they started making it, but by the time they were finished, Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot 1 had already come out and blew them out the water. Ouch.

(Fun fact: The developers of Bubsy 3D saw Mario 64 and completely freaked out. They wanted to do a complete rewrite of the game but the publishers told them no, they were releasing it as-is)

SE wouldn't but Aiming would be aware of all stock purchases regarding itself, and would pass that info along to SE. Companies are paranoid about leaks because they can fuck up potential deals and ruin the bottom line revenue.

The difference is that Chong kept working and didn't flush his career down the toilet where as oshima made blinx and the worst yoshi game of all time.

What do you suppose causes this in people? It can't just be plain old autism, its got to be something else altogether--it's that same desperation to cling to superficially good times that boomers display. This is a degree worse than the 400lb old man bragging about how he won the big sportsball game though, and I say that because its based on consuming a product instead of having accomplished anything personal--no, high scores and speedruns never count as real achievements.

Just what the fuck is it about sonic that creates this type of sadsack? At least the pokephiles can defend themselves with the fact that their series is relevant, where as sonic was a fad that stayed in the limelight for about four years at best. Sonic isn't something like last year's product developing a vocal fandom or last decade's fad being brought back for nostalgia cash-ins by sega, he's fucking last century's leftovers.
