But Breathed and Watterson knew each other professionally, and were comfortable enough with each other to trade good natured ribbings
Ah, friend - I couldn't tell whether to rate your post as Winner or Informative, it's fascinating context! I've seen that first cartoon Watterson made, but not the second or third. Even if it's ribbing/trolling, anything new about C&H is always a joy to see by itself.

I'll admit I tried to cover myself with the "seemingly" and "apparently", because I did know of their relationship vis-a-vis one another, and that alone meant I would imagine Breathed would NOT publish anything that wouldn't fly with Watterson for this storyline. And I'm not above admitting that in an age of so much stuff getting crappy revivals, or never even being allowed to end or at least evolve as need be, or not having bite in our overly-sensitive age - I always took this version of a grown-up Calvin as surprisingly.... hm. In-tune? Calvin was always something of a little shit as much as he could also tug at the heartstrings, so seeing him as something off-kilter like this (Spiff reference or not) as an adult also felt on point. And I always imagined it as the closest to a canon "where are they now" we'll ever gonna get, since by default Breathed more than anyone else could likely run it by Watterson for approval.

But, I also admit, just the general plot line of him reuniting with Hobbes like this will always strike at my heart as a huge C&H fan. For me it at least hits just right.

The magic of reading Calvin and Hobbes is adults reexperiencing that (and for kids, relating to it) so an adult calvin completely ruins that timeless appeal.
There's also that if you talk to an imaginary friend when you're six years old, that's cute. If you're an adult who talks to an imaginary friend you're a schizo.

Oh yeah, poly bitch isn't bitter at all that her relationship is falling apart and the only way to salvage it was to let her boyfriend fuck other women. Unless she's a lesbian, these days it could go either way with comics.

It's funny that these artists never understand how much they're actually revealing when they make these comics.

I think its more that she's bitter that her friend is in a stable relationship that has improved to the point they are going long-term exclusive. This means fat friend cannot try to date/fuck either of them.

Like that one tranny comic where they were having a seethe about friends getting married because it meant there no hope of them being their live-in polyslut.

I can't find it now but there was a cute comic that showed a fat girl wearing revealing clothes and a skinny girl asked if she should be wearing that. The response from the fat girl was "it looked great on your boyfriend's floor last night" and then flips her off.
It left an impression on me because my friend who was married and fat at the time posted it. I thought it was in poor taste. She told me later after getting a bypass she didn't know how or why she gained weight but the bypass was the only solution to her problem. This was before gpl1's and she ended up looking strange.

These types really have a talent for making themselves look shitty a la "New Guy", the friend was simply concerned as a good friend should be.
They don't understand friendships, sadly. True friends are concerned for another's well being and don't want to see their friend get hurt emotionally or otherwise.

Found it. Yeah, this is definitely one of those "And everybody clapped" scenarios that only happened in the artist's daydream. I've seen some edits done to make fun of the fat girl, or give the skinny girl a fitting response instead of just standing there 'offended' but this is the original:

My thanks. It seems I may have made up the dialogue. It's less savage and more dumb than I remember but makes the point of author projection true; it's also why insecure Tumblr women liked it.

It’s a thing I’ve experienced first hand with friends who have decided to “open their relationship”. It was forced it upon my conflict avoidant friend and he’s been struggling for almost a year. His partner insists that she date other women even though all she ends up dating are fucking trannys.

All while my friend, who is the only person earning money and keeping their house together is left to pick up the pieces. Fucking hate ‘poly’ morons.

A bit late to the party, but:

Berk Breathed in the 2010s Bloom County revival, seemingly with Watterson's permission, wrote an arc about Hobbes being lost for ages upon ages and found by Opus and co. - naturally, Opus is able to communicate with him! Opus and friends eventually find Calvin's address to mail Hobbes back to him, who by now is living off-the-grid but is a sheer engineering genius, making a real-life version of Spaceman Spiff's spaceship and it's exactly as fast and cool as you'd hope it is.

The last strip and panel of the crossover is a young spiky-haired man opening up a box labeled LIVE TIGER.

I admit it. I always took this to be the "canon" epilogue to C&H not just due to Breathed (apparently) getting Watterson's blessing to do so, but also due to him treating the characters with exactly the same love, respect, and wonder Watterson did.

As a 10-year old spiky-haired boy who also liked tigers with parents suspiciously like Calvin's when the strip ended, I couldn't have asked for anything better.
I'm going to be a misery guts here (not growing up with C&H) but that panel is just giving me flashbacks to those awkward "Rugrats as adults" pieces of fanart where they're cool and successful because the artist likes the characters.

yeah I was working towards a "50% of all marriages end in divorce, 100% of all polymorons end up exploding their lives because it at best just papers over the flaws in the relationship". I had a friend who it seemed to be working for him for a while but it just pushed the divorce about 5 years down the road and make it that much more explosive.

The author of this comic cancelled it so that he could, and I'm not paraphrasing this, devote his comic-making time to"resist[ing] ICE and the nonsense going on in the US right now" :story: :story: :story:

It's worth noting that the author himself is almost certainly hispanic, or at least adjacent somehow, given what the protagonist is supposed to look like:

For those not in the know: this comic started when the author was young, and it's based off a series where the protagonist is meant to be a self-insert.

And, had the greedy retard not kept his Patreon active this entire time, I would've genuinely assumed he'd been deported during his efforts because it's been so long since the last post. But, no:

He's getting $300 a month for this, btw.

There is still a nonzero chance that he's actually been deported. His Comicfury account hasn't been seen since June 10th, his Patreon has been silent since June 25th, and I can't find any other social media accounts of his.

his tumblr has been extremely active this entire time >:(

he's probably just being a lazy slacktivist bastard and using it as an excuse to cancel is half-decent fan project
