You mean their content? I don't remember PAX going on hiatus (unless we're talking COVID)
IIRC, and again that's a toss up, that was part of the PennyArcade "premium subscription" they were offering as a proto-patreon. There were production issues with PATV filming that I don't really fucking remember, and IIRC that was around the time they were working on their Videogame.
But it AIR it boiled down to a mix of access issues/bandwidth problems - remember at the time the video codec Youtube was using hadn't entered public domain yet so videos were limited to 10 minutes due to license requirements, and no one really had viable live streaming yet.
So they spent some time trying to unfuck, streamline and work everything into the correct "Branding".

But then bcause it was Mike And Jerry who are retards, and due to Penny Arcade no longer being the "it" thing on the scene (see: retards), it all sort of fell apart.
I was specifically talking about PATV. Also, the show was on Blip initially, which didn't have the time limit and could do HD, plus they did ads for everyone who put up a video. That's why they were able to put up longer videos (By which I mean 15 minutes) when Youtube still had the time limit.

As for Mike and Jerry, part of it was that they were in the right place at the right time, but the other was that they were autists who played literally every game in existence. So when they talked about a game, they had something to say about it. Most imitators just didn't have the time, patience, or 'work ethic' to do that and just half-assed the jokes or stole them from other gaming comics. And Mike had an art style that appealed to many people, along with the know-how that when they experimented with the strip, he could whip up something pretty good.

The problem is, that's where their positives ended. When it was time to branch out, as you said, they're retards.

I swiped this from a PG thread because this image is basically Jeph/QC IRL:

Jeph's descent into utter internet leftoid brainrot generator has been honestly fascinating to me. Anything interesting about his comic was scrubbed years ago, and now it's just gay androids sassily validating each other.

It would explain why he accidently nuked his own site and claims to have been hacked.
Nah, he was probably was using some widget or template from a third party provider that ceased support and he's too stupid and high to figure out a replacement. Nuking his own site takes more gumption than he's got, and a hack would have been fixed by now by his hosting service of nobody else.

Yah, when I read his post about it my brain immediately went "Wouldn't your host be able to restore the site to a previous state with backups? Or were you to cheap or lazy to set that up? Or did you actually fuck it up yourself somehow?"

TO be honest, all three are real possibilities, but my money is on him being a dipshit.

I wish he had stabbed his hand harder.
If he had, it would have caused QC to end at the tail end of its 'height' and he wouldn't have ruined his legacy with the stupid characters he inserted because he was butthurt about Alice Grove not taking off. People would have felt sorry for him and supported a new project with a new artist out of pity, and he could have moved on.

But, most likely the same shit as currently happening now would have happened.

When Something Positive went down, Randy said it was because the site owners nuked everything and now he has to upload all the old strips again, and he refuses to let anyone else do it because he's a little bitch when it comes to his website.

With Jeph, he probably assumed there was a backup when there wasn't. But I just checked and the website is back. Not to how it used to be but it looks somewhat useable if you're a fan.

So i was on tiktok and I got this ad from some gay furfag who plays games on twitch. And xhey were fucking screaming xheir lungs out the entire time and my rest of the hour was ruined.

I don't need to make any jokes the video writes itself, also my ears fucking hurt from listening to this video. Bad impressions but at least the art isn't straight bad furfag trash, it's just gay furfag trash
I thought i blocked this faggot on tiktok, I guess I was wrong because he's peddling his shit comic again.

My fucking ears hurt listening to this shit.

Fifty thousand people used to post on the Megatokyo forums. Now it's a ghost town.

At the time of its death, the original Megatokyo forum had a little over 50,000 registered users and 3.9 million posts (A). There was fan art, fan comics (excuse me, *doujinshi*), fanfiction, even fan music. Of course the forum was dead on its feet long before its official mothballing, judging by the fact that nobody bothered to show up for the its rebooted replacement: https://forums.megatokyo.com/ (A). It's doubtful that the current 744 total registered users are all genuine, as that number has been halved according to archives from its 2017 debut. Current registration requires manual mod approval, suggesting there was a previous spam bot problem. What's crazy is the holdouts of around 5 or so posters still active nearly a decade later.

Fred's Patreon has had a steady downtrend over the past 5 years, sitting at 400 users giving around $1500 a month. I mean, not bad money considering his output, but a far cry from a hack fraud like ol' Handstabby Jeph.

Fred has 6,200 followers on his semi-abandoned Xitter account (one of which is Serial Experiments Lain character designer Yoshitoshi Abe, whom Fred not too subtly cribbed a lot of his art and story from). 2,900 of them bothered to follow him over to Bluesky, where he mostly retweets a MT bot and sadposts to the tune of 31 updoots:

Did he?

Well, Fred, let's think about this. Back in 2001, you had a webcomic that rivalled Penny Arcade, at the time the biggest webcomic online. You could go to conventions and have huge lines of fans coming for your merch and just to meet you. You were able to buy your own servers for your site and print your own merch rather than having a middleman taking a cut of your profits. And your wife helped run the business side which meant you had more time to focus on the comic.

By 2010, you barely reached 50k hits on the site on days you actually posted the comic. The main comic's output had slowed to a crawl and we knew you could get pages out quicker because whenever you did one of those side stories, like the one based on Full Metal Panic!, the pages came out a lot quicker. You refused to bring in someone else to do a small side story while you built up a backlog of pages so updates could get out more frequently. And, seemingly, you refused to bring in more people to help print merch. You started printing merch for the Apple Geeks guys, and that made some money, but it also caused your comic to suffer.

Eventually, you had to get a regular job to support your wife and son, after having one of the most successful, popular, and beloved webcomics out there. And it was because you just could not get your comic out on time and refused to admit that your laziness was the reason so many of your fans decided 'fuck this' and bailed. At one point you had gone two months without a new MT page, and then you announced you and your family were going on a two week vacation.

Yes, Fred. Yes you should have tried harder. A little discipline would have gone a long way.

Yes you sad sack depressoid.
"At all" is harder than your current level of trying which is "fuck all".

And wait, when did Fred "Accross the Street. Always just accross the street" Gallagher ever have to get a real job? I missed that arc. I thought he was living off wifemoney, pity bux, and money from the halcyon days of unlimited weeb wallets.

Worse than the bad webcomic is the bad webcomic that makes it to the real world, printed and hardbound.

I had the recent displeasure of reading Mattie Lubchansky's "Boys' Weekend," an assault on the eyes. The characters look like formless melting figures, with as much depth to match. Ugly backgrounds, poor pacing. The STRUGGLING trans protagonist is surrounded by a bunch of strawmen devoid of any character, and everyone has the worst dialogue. The protagonist whines and complains the whole way through a bachelor's party weekend, where the bachelor himself has to bend over backwards to accommodate protagonist, to the point of literally being crushed to death by falling debris with dying words, "You're right, I should have been nicer to you *blagh*" to which our brave hero goes back home with no remorse or shock towards the massive loss of life they've just witnessed.

It honestly reads a lot better if you embrace the protagonist as a selfish retard and give them a funny voice like Lumpy Space Princess. It did get a few good laughs out of me:

This artist puts detail in the most selfish places. You see them walk to their apartment complex. Which unit is theirs? Oh it's gotta be the only one with anything extra on the windows. A giant trans flag and a BLM sign. Why not.

A photograph at the beginning of two men, one is our protagonist pre-transition. Which one? You can't tell, this artist is incapable of capturing any sort of real anatomy. This same gag plays throughout when waitstaff constantly address the protag as "sir," but again it's like misgendering a stick figure. After the first misgendering occurrence, I looked to the back of the book which has a photograph of the author, in makeup, strong jawline, beard shadow. Lmao

An actual woman is also on this bachelor party, and the MOMENT the protagonist is alone with this woman, talks about how it's nice to be around just femmes. The woman rightly responds, "femmes? You mean women? Oh I guess you're not really--"
In this same scene they have to shoot a clone (contrived future-tech bullshit and yet the trans *~*struggle~*) of themselves and our hero upon seeing their bearded male-clone, cries and screams how much they hate themselves and misses every shot.

A later scene at a pool and our brave hero has their top off. Ugly blob anatomy persists but let's be sure to draw every one of their ugly tattoos.

Seeing the bachelor literally die apologizing was pretty funny. Pure sociopathy in paper form.
