I know it is late and I do have a friend with WPW, but it is very much rare.
 
Question! After reading this thread, I am quite disgusted by this Sugar person. How can someone so vile still be able to cause even more damages as time goes on? I wanted to get into the TF2 fandom since I like some of the characters, and I wanted to definitely draw some fanarts of them. But I am worried I might attract people like Vade and Sugar? Is it possible to avoid them or should I not consider joining the TF2 fandom? Thanks!

It is definitely possible to avoid Vade, Sugar, and their cronies in the TF2 fandom. I do this on my fandom blog the-blu-exorcist on tumblr and I make sure I don't reblog from Vade, Sugar, or their cronies period. Definitely avoid any url with "autistic", "bpd", or any other known mental disorder and already your chances of encountering Vade or any of her cronies is lowered a lot.

Also be cautious around anyone whose url is something like "trans[insert-character-here]" or "queer[insert-character-here]" or has some variation of the words "misandrist", "cisphobe", or "heterophobe" in their url.

Also don't forget to avoid anyone with "[insert-character-here]kin" urls because they are usually the crazy part of the fandom who "identifies" as fictional characters (aka fictionkin, the most retarded thing I have ever heard of to be honest).

Pretty much what everybody else has said. If somebody doesn't shut up about identity politics and only ever complains about shit, steer clear.
 
Thank you guys for the answers! It sucks that no fandom is safe from SJWs! Not only do I want to get into fandoms like TF2, Homestuck, etc, but I'm worried that if I start drawing the characters in a way that is considered not to be the "norm" I might attract unwanted attention. I've seen people attack artists on tumblr simply for making a racially ambiguous character black or some other "race". It's quite scary. But I do know that I will do my best to avoid anything related to Vade and Sugar.

I'll be honest, TF2 seemed like a relatively harmless fandom. I only know stuff from the games, and from fan-animation people do on youtube. Knowing that there lies a large creepy fanbase that gives all the characters different types of sexuality/ pronouns is quite unsettling.

Thanks to Vade, the SJW branch of the fandom has been emboldened. Things were relatively more chill in the pre-Tumblr days when drawing mpreg could get you ostracized for being a degenerate tArtlet.

A lot of people who made it great have since left or dropped off the map. The standard for quality has kind of gone down the shitter as far as fic is concerned. Art is still pretty decent, but Jesus Christ there is a lot of fetishy transgender shit.

Just tread lightly. There are gems to be found if you search for them.

I would suggest you avoid Archive of Our Own entirely because the only shit that gets updated there regularly are shitty rape fics and other gross/weird fetishes, it's pretty depressing to look at.

Everything else people have said is true, I've looked up to a lot of artists only to have them turn around and act like huge assholes so don't be afraid to stop following them and just do your own thing even if someone gets on your case about whatever, just be polite even if they're being jerks.
