Just throwing this out there, and I think it is extremely unlikely, could the tear-drop be for some real reason? Rather than just coming from the seeming confusion that is their mind, could it be an indicator of some real act? Are we going to see dark hints at desperate acts from them to justify wearing the 'drop?

I'm sure I've sen the teardrop in Anime as well. I don't remember which one (Escaflowne, maybe?), but it was a series, and one of the angsty/emo bad guys had a teardrop tat. This guy seems almost as likely to have gotten it from Anime as he would from seeing pictures of tough gang members.

EDIT: Yeah, it was Folken from Escaflowne.

As other Kiwis have pointed out, the teardrop can also mean the person has been raped in prison. Knowing Phil, he might, and I mean might, have gotten it to commemorate and for lack of a better word, legitimize, his false rape accusations against his father. Could also be another empty threat against everybody who isn't part of antifa. Like how he'll get revenge for all the stupid faggots in black masks the police have taken down or have had their shit pushed in by people who've had enough from a group of destructive, entitled shitbags wrecking their homes and cities.

I really think that's giving him too much credit. I think he got it to be edgy and in his mind it makes him look intimidating. He wants to fit in with those antifa guys so bad.

That's not a prison teardrop, though. Those are generally at the corner of the eye.

Some, but this isn't a tattoo specific to a gang. And really, thanks to speds like Phil, it doesn't have much of a meaning anymore except being 'prison-related' (plus it had different regional meanings anyway). This tends to happen with tats. It used to be that someone with a cobweb tat on their elbow was broadcasting that they had done time, but now you'll find plenty of people that do it either thoughtlessly or because they're trying to ape the look (saw a police cadet had one once, that was a laugh... he was exceptional had to cover it up all the time).

I doubt anyone would kill Phil over a teardrop tattoo, they'd just laugh their asses off and beat the shit out of him for all the other nonsense he does.

I would love too see Phil confronted by gangembers and love to see his excuse as to why he has something he shouldn't have. "It's a tattoo from an anime, I'm the bad evil trans Latina". He would expect everyone to know that, then immeadiatly become confused when he gets his ass kicked and tattoo ripped out of his face.

Those are supposed to replicate part of the detail on Kylo Ren's helmet - if you look where the nose would be just under the 'visor' you'll see three bars similar to what spuds has:

Of course, this backfired hilariously on Phil when the next film came and what happened? Kylo Ren destroys the helmet in rage and subsequently doesn't ever use it again.

And why Kylo Ren for Phil's face, you ask? Because Kylo Ren is everything Phil wants to be - an evil manbaby who is in a powerful position over others, takes no shit from others, can throw temper tantrums whenever he wants, and his mere existence inexplicably terrifies lesser people (even though he really doesn't look all that terrifying if you ask me). Despite, ironically, pretty much being the closest thing to Hitler in charge of the Space Facists in Star Wars right now.
