Whatever happened to Skull & Bones
One of the 4 games stuck in development hell

I'd be surprised if it ever saw the light of day. Its original release date was supposed to be early 2018. That should tell you how bad things are at Ubisoft, most studios left that whole "gameplay trailer for games that never see the light of day" bullshit in the ps2 era.

Actually the original release date for Skull & Bones was fall of 2018, not early 2018.

I'm guessing that fan outcry over the game only being ship to ship combat in online multiplayer led to Ubisoft wanting to institute more single player and maybe even on foot content.

I would have been fine with leaving that for a sequel and just having the first game be ship to ship combat, but gamers aren't happy unless they're unhappy and now it does look like the devs might have bit off more than they could chew if they tried to make the game more than ship to ship combat.

Hopefully the game will still eventually come out, what they showed was just too fucking cool to never release (for what it's worth no, I really doubt they would cancel the game entirely)

Are you fucking me? Ship to ship combat multiplayer sounds great, there are literally so many other options for on foot combat.

Unless of course you literally mean its full COD, multiplayer only $60 in which case i can completely understand the backlash. But thats what sequels are for like you said. Especially when that other pirate game from rare came out which is essentially just multiplayer with fetch quests and combat

I would prefer the game be more of a full experience than just ship to ship combat, but I'd gladly take just ship to ship combat over no game at all.

It looks like the original idea was simply "For Honor but with boats" but I feel For Honor has wasted potential for interesting single player content as well.

So hopefully all they've done is delay the game into the next gen and are hard at work on giving us the full pirate experience and it hasn't been canceled.

i heard everyone tell tale of how it was actually representative of greek degeneracy, but never cared to verify that for myself. was that untrue and they just went full pander-mode?

i will say if they don't represent norse culture correctly, they'll get absolutely shit on. every norse person i've met or seen online is a real gatekeeper for their history since its constantly raped in modern media.
That's not going to do anything, because the media rape has shown itself to be incredibly popular and successful. It already looks like game is blatantly ripping off the Vikings and The Last Kingdom series. So expect stronk shieldmydyns and Norsemen rocking hipster hairdos, tattoos and eyeliner. They'll be portrayed as warrior hippies, indulging in psychedelics and generally being free spirits with a remarkablly down-to-earth and tolerance view on matters; juxtaposed with stuffy, socially regressive and haughty Christians.

Bonus points if it tries to ignore or spin the whole 'rape and pillage' part. The trailer already hints at that when, during Alfred's narration of how evil the Norsemen are, Protagonist Viking stops his comrade from swinging his axe at an English mother and child, which seems to be raised more out of surprise than it was in anger. We might unironically get a plot about how the Templars made up all the bad shit about the Vikings, and how the Great Heathen Army were just misunderstood gud bois who dindu nuffin.

So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing...

Oooooooooh Oooooooooh Oooooooooh...

@Ughubughughughughughghlug Like I said, you just had the Kangz, the Greeks, and the Romans, in this whole "Greeks bad but Romans worse" sort of villain shtick. It was terrible. I know you're a fan of history from your posts in the PDX thread, so trust me when I say it was agonizing to play through.

Assassins Creed Skellage seems fun
I wonder if Freya or Hela will show up. Any famous ladies from around that time?

i thought Rome would've been the next step, or feudal japan. i haven't touched any games after revelations. should i touch 3 or nah?

You should play 3, Black Flag, and Rogue, but stop there. 3 is pretty weak game, but it sets the stage in both gameplay and theme for the next two games, which are pretty good.

I was thinking I wouldn't get it because I really didn't want just a multiplayer ship battle game, I wanted a pirate game that plays like Black Flag. Black Flag wasn't JUST about the ships and it wasn't JUST about the islands. Even Sid Meier's Pirates!, of all things, let you interact with the shore, so Skull and Bones is officially more shallow than Black Flag.

But I've thought about getting it anyways, because what other choice is there? Nobody else makes games like that. But I haven't even played a console game in half a year; controller broke, and I haven't ever bothered to replace it, since it's just as well that I don't waste time on that stuff.

I was put off of Odyssey also because of its asinine, fantasy naval system. Real naval battles in the ancient world consisted of peppering the enemy with arrows to kill their crew, then ramming them to try to sink them, and if that fails (or if you want to capture the ship, so you don't ram to sink), you board and fight them hand-to-hand. From what I've seen, the naval system in Odyssey is just a reskin of Black Flag, where you somehow magically blow up enemy ships by shooting them with flaming arrows.

Then again, Origins had five kinds of bows corresponding to the five weapon types of antiquity: bows and arrows, scoped sniper rifles, automatic rifles, shotguns, and cruise missiles. And I liked that.

Wish Paradox would make their games more like Unity.

I think ship to ship combat only is perfectly fine for a series to "get it's foot in the door" and more could be saved for a sequel.

Looking at the latest Assassins Creed trailer, you know what I want to play instead?

An Alternate History RPG where you play as a Knight who's part of a Crusade against the Viking menace by invading their lands. You start as a slightly stronger Knight, and grow to become a terrifying killing maschine similiar to the caped Knight we saw in the AC: Valhalla trailer, with even the strongest chieftains and champions being like leaves in a fire-tornado.

The karma score would be divided between "Scourge of God" and "Saint of Vikings":
The Saint path taking steps to move the pagans away from their faith by slaying their champions, burning down holy forests, replacing druids with priests and guidestones with crosses, and colonizing their lands. Scourge of God requires you to go full Scorched Earth, with cities and towns burned down and its inhabitants enslaved, forcing the vikings to retreat further inland, with the climax of that path creating a vast land of Mordor-tier wastelands between the coast and wherever the vikings try to hide.

That's based on the badass knight who slaps that wimp viking around.
