Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Seriously though, what's the point of editorial control over what sources are posted? If you want me to keep editorials to certain 10%ish, I get that, there's only so many you can glance over before you want to gouge out your own eyes. The illusion that the other articles are news because they managed to survive the social media news apocalypse is as dangerous as it is silly.

If we allowed blogs to go into A&H then we'd get overrun with pretty terrible ones in a hurry. I consider almost none of the mainstream news outlets to be anything close to an authoritative source that are essentially just a blog for angry journalists, but I still have to adhere to the fact that VOX.com is not quite the same as a Wordpress blog, even if the lady writing that blog is presenting significantly better material than the 20-something busy finding the next thing to jam up his ass.

Most of the time, the hilarity from A&H posts comes from the fact that these places desperately want to be taken seriously while they're publishing incredibly un-serious things. Something like the exploration of America's cultural degeneration also isn't a specific event, it's more of a broad-reaching topic instead of centering around an immediate development. It's a bit of a finicky area with a couple of grey spots, but I do feel like most of the things you're posting out there would do better in a different part of the forum.

I use RSS feeds and I've got about a hundred sites in various catogories. This one is from a group of sites that I grouped under for various jewish interest websites, including algemeiner.com and isreallycool.

I hate to make it seem like you're being intentionally singled out, but you just keep posting really unusual things that just happen to always get reported.

Nah, if anyone's being singled out right now, it's probably that guy who threw crap all over the walls in the Hunter Biden laptop thread. If there's any partisanship in the moderation team, I've never seen it manifest in a way that would lead them to prefer removing one type of content over another to the benefit of their political preferences. If anything I'd describe them as being dismissive or disinterested in A&H, nevermind anything approaching intentionally-directed censorship.

The political content of the story is never what gets a post moderated, it's just whether or not it adheres to the formatting expected of A&H, and even then posts will slip under the radar if nobody reports it. If it's not reported, the mods don't care and probably won't even see it. Hell, I don't even read half the stories posted in A&H because they just don't interest me, so I'm not going to go out of my way to find problems. If I can't even be arsed to stringently read every single thread on the board I've been assigned to, the globals--who have to moderate every thread on the farms--aren't going to do it either.

It's not that you have to censor yourself, it's just that you need the right material to justify an OP, or to just post the content in a thread it would already belong to, like with this one and how it would have fit inside of the Biden or Voter Fraud threads. I mean you do a nice job and I appreciate the outreach, but the idea that the content is never the reason a post gets moderated is just not something you could know. You can't look into their heads, or collectively observe the interplay between reporting and responses from moderators. As you say, it's too complex and too uninteresting. And who fucking cares anyways? People who take their news from kiwifarms are going to be badly informed in the first place. It's like wearing crazy color glasses. It's fun. It's not going to help you drive better.
