Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

If every post on the farms is going to be accompanied with predictable troll ratings then just remove them and accept the ensuing low-content "I agree" post responses and be done. The stickers had a utilitarian function in keeping board flow (expressing what you think about a post without making an unnecessary one yourself) and someone assmad about 4chan garbage found a way to fag up threads without breaking any rules. I was under the impression that revenge rating was always looked down upon, and that's what is happening here (and no, these people aren't revenge rating indiscriminately, which is also dumb anyway).

Also, (most) people are exaggerating the response, most people have just said it's kind of stupid and honestly it seems like these few people doing it care more about the sticker system than anyone else because it makes up the bulk of their activity on the farms. I just enjoyed the stickers because they were useful, but I guess now they're not going to be anymore.

Its just stickers
 
The sticker system is wonderful because with the absolute, barest minimum of an effort you can make someone lose their minds with a single click. It takes no thought, no planning, no setup, you just click and occasionally you get people making an entire, shit-flinging thread about people clicking the wrong buttons.

We never would have gotten the Cucky thread without stickers.

Perhaps, but they were useful and helped post flow by essentially preventing people from telling each other they agree with each other like what happens on reddit. The only stickers I really care about are the first four, the rest are just for fun and meaningless. I also liked to use them for older threads so I could "comment" on a post without necro'ing it.

If people have lost their minds I haven't paid attention, I generally avoid that kind of drama. I don't think the people doing it are master trolls. They're doing it under the guise of trolling, but it's just typical forums assmaddery. Whomever is going apeshit is just as dumb as the people doing the revenge-rating or whatever.

I'd rather not see this place become like 4chan. I haven't seen the Cucky thread yet.

This is mortal combat. The state of this board is a sticker civil war, not unlike a sticker civil war i experienced in kindergarten.
 
Any platform that exists for making fun of crazy people will slowly fill with crazy people.

The paradox is that trying to arrest this process leads to an infestation of a different sort of crazy.

Unfortunately this means that most platforms like this have a shelf life. I really appreciate the way this place has served as a news aggregator, but I know that's not what it was built for. I'm legit sorry if I've made it worse, and I'll probably move on once there's someplace better for my needs.

I just finished reading the cucky thread and if I wasn't already jaded about ratings before, i certainly am now. anyone whining about stickers should be required to read that whole thing, tbh.

I clicked the first link expecting it to bring me right back to this thread, because that would have been hilarious. I am terribly disappointed.

The real big downside to willy-nilly "dumb" stickers is that it devalues how I rate every single BoxerShorts47 post. And HE deserves it.
