Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

that already exists on 4chan /pol/, no?
a forum with accounts (like this one) makes moderation possible, and kiwi mods are doing a really nice job overall, so the content and discussion is a bit higher quality than on an anonymous imageboard where everything just degenerates into mindless shitposting and moderation has no way to really deal with it.
halfchan blows though

That also brings up another question.

Is 9chan intended to be a replacement for 8chan and as such is it intended to become a popular replacement for 8kun or is it just a test on the Farms to see if forum culture can translate into imageboard culture?

Frankly, I don't see why the farms and 9chan can't be companion sites. The formats complement each other.

This can only end well.

I'm not sure what a Yotsuba imageboard would accomplish over keeping the politics here. If anything it just seems like more work to moderate. Additionally if this board somehow grows as large as 4chan's Politically Incorrect, how do you intend to handle things like the inevitable tide of slidebots, possible manifestos (real or otherwise) pinned to you by the federal government and all the other things that make various iterations of /pol/ a headache for its administrators?
Good point, it's a lot harder to distance yourself from the lunatics when you're seen to be actively platforming them, as opposed to just hosting information about them for archival purposes.

Then again, this site has already been crucified as a den of Nazi pedophiles for doing the latter, so why not just say ''fuck it'' and go all-in at this point.

Those are some ebin mental gymnastics.

I don't particularly hate /pol/, but I can definitely understand why a lot of people do. It's not a troon conspiracy to kill the board or a mass influx of pc fags. I'm sure there's some truth to that, but it's not what accounts for 90% of anti-/pol/ abuse, which comes from run of the mill anons. The reason for that is that the board has indeed become the new /b/ in attracting newfriends, but the vibe is quite different. People are coming for politics rather than laughs, and stick to one board rather than naturally gravitating towards others after the novelty of /b/ wears off. It breeds a group of people who take themselves and their views way too fucking seriously. It doesn't help that alot of them are refugees from legitimately repressive sites, as that makes them understandably very wary of anything that resembles censorship and shaming.

That's the reason for most anti-/pol/ sentiment. It's not that they're 'too racist' or whatever, it's that too many of them are aggressively unfunny, have no self-awareness and derail threads with borderline blogposting behaviour. Nobody on /ck/ is interested in your dissertation on African IQ in a thread about cantaloupes, and your rights aren't being violated just because they express it. Getting defensive and melodramatic about it isn't going to do anything except invite more well-deserved derision.

The fact that these niggers are spinning inspiring victim narratives because someone on 4chan told them to ''fuck off and kys'' should speak volumes. We're talking about an anime imageboard where animeposters are regularly called weebs and told to return to /a/. There's nothing special about recieving that treatment.

Basically, considering how this thread got more posts than the actual board, I'll probably merge this back into the State of the Board thread and delete /news/ on 9chan until there's a demand for it. It seems most people on 9chan want their ideological-oriented /pol/s and KF users prefer the forum.
It's a chan, so that's not surprising. Though I'm sure plenty of us will likely use 9chan as on outlet to shitpost and niggerpost and the like. I'm happy you're working on the Next project again, but I hope that you keep the news and happening board sections open here on KF in the long run regardless of what happens with 9chan. They might end up with less traffic, but that'll likely help curate content and clean it up a bit so you can go more than a day or two without having to talk yourself out of deleting them both due to various reasons.

If 9chan simply becomes a smaller 2011 4chan in spirit, I'd be happy with that. But I'm also happy that you seem to be enjoying yourself while working on the project. Dedicated two hour autistic 9chan programming ranting/raving stream when?

The articles people actually take the time to repost elsewhere, be it forums or futaba boards tend to be ones with longevity. That is to say it doesn't matter very much if news boards are slow because the news posted there tends towards in-depth articles that will still be relevant weeks or months later, rather than the usual buzzfeed clickbait.

I thinkt hat there should be consequences for the plague here.

If the plague is a big deal (let's say a million dead in the US, but I'm just spitballing), we IP ban everybody who was downplaying the virus.

If the plague wasn't a big deal, we IP ban all the doomers.

I'm not sure pulling IP bans off would be easy, I have quintillions of addresses and can easily get more. I guess you could just ban my whole block though.
