Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

@Dick Justice, @crocodilian, I would like to direct you both to my very elaborate effort post here. I would agree with crocodilian that 4chan /pol/ is basically /b/ with Swastikas. The crazy, violent, schizoidal types generally have been banished to 8ch/8kun /pol/.

People who buy into Swarmfront conspiracies are delusional. Not only does Stormfront have perhaps a twentieth of traffic imageboards receive, the userbase over there is so old, out-of-touch and permanently wired to the '90s militias movements. They really don't have a clue how things work, so I can't imagine them being savvy enough to get into the world of memes. If imageboards had a political conscious, it was broadly Libertarian, but even that fails to encapsulate the nature of imageboard users. In short, /b/tards liked to be edgy, unconstrained by norms and had a dark sense of humor. They didn't like sanctimonious opinions, no matter where they came from. This also explains why people were deeply divided on Chanology between the edgier segment of users and moralfags.

But while we're on the subject, I've noticed a steady flow of claims that state that overt, unironic racism was the end result of steadfast astroturfing from White Nationalist communities, namely Stormfront, to forge a new generation of racists and take over the American right-wing. Often, you'll see Stormfront threads cited as incontrovertible proof such coordinated shilling took place. To me, it all belies the long process of political machinations that took place years before and completely ignores the already edgy, contrarian nature of imageboard users. Unironic racism has a long tradition on imageboards in no small part being due to the communities being relatively lax in moderation and entirely anonymous. /reich/ on 99chan was a very active community long before even 4chan's /new/ was created. Whether it was the product of deep-seated belief or a side effect of having a userbase of edgy, contrarian, socially awkward, misanthropic introverts is irrelevant to the question of sincerity. Overt racism is, for all intents and purposes, the cardinal sin in liberal democracies subject to criminal penalties depending on your country, so it's going to be championed by edgy people.

/pol/ was created as a containment board after stormfront niggers kept chimping out and shitting on the floors of /k/ and iirc /news/ whereas this sounds like a tabula rasa
Wait is this true though? How do you explain the leftypol split? I admit I don't know much lore but I was under the impression early pol was a mixed bag but big into libertarian stuff.

You're correct. /pol/ was originally /new/, and despite being open to all political views it had an overwhelmingly lolbertarian slant. Things changed when:
  • Stormfront discovered the board and started giving input (which was their right; again, no political views were banned on /new/. They were still annoying though.)
  • Libertarians slowly started to become a joke, and the sincere weighing of libertarian ideals by casual users began to erode its plausibility. Ron Paul was also consistently snubbed in mainstream politics despite being a pretty bright guy.
  • Discussion of politics on the internet exploded in popularity (thanks Twitter), which allowed /new/ to swell into /b/ numbers. Normalfags are not known for intelligent discourse, especially when it comes to something as complex as world news.
Moot eventually shut down /new/ because he, like the infirm future Google employee he is, saw nazis utilizing free speech as an enormous threat. After considerable backlash he brought it back later as "/pol/ - Politically Incorrect," which was basically what /new/ was prior to deletion, and things haven't really changed since. Every political view is allowed to speak their peace when robots aren't sliding discussion or otherwise doing their best to spam the board into an unusable, boring state.

The Leftypol split occurred when 8chan appeared. Leftist users (not American liberals, I mean hardcore communists and Antifa types) had a tendency to get blown the fuck out on /pol/ because they tried to argue like communists rather than through citations, data and infographs. Tired of being humiliated, they created their own board on 8kun and various Zeronet networks, where they discuss doing exactly what they accuse /pol/ of doing.

I used a tripcode to heil hitler and nothing happened. Gay as fuck.

Also I tried to ban someone because that was available on the menu and also nothing happened.

You are worst moot.

I was wrong about the tripcode thing. Needs to go in author field.

Who's in charge of /v/? That's your real money, get THQ to post and do AMAs again on far-right imageboards.
I might be wrong but I think Mark from 8chan's /v/ contacted Null to reserve it, might be who'll run it.

If he actually does it might become a significant place for escapees of that. He was the one non-idiot still at that place.

Wait is OwO a they now? Also there are now two pony boards.
No, but I refuse to acknowledge their supposed gender.

Anyway, I'm glad the captchas aren't giftcard codes anymore. 10 characters was painful.
