Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Yeah, it rapidly became an incredibly heated topic. For once I can at least understand why people are flipping their lids because something is actually happening this time, but it's still ridiculous that people find it necessary to vent their anger out onto total strangers over the internet. You can't even make it a single page in there without someone finding the need to throw out an insult before they've made it two words into their reply.

I'm trying to be much more lax in 'time-outing' people in there because I understand that tensions are high and more than a few people think that the world is about to implode, but we're also reaching the point where it would be nice to make it five steps without someone screaming and flailing around a "THE END IS NIGH" sign. Concern is understandable, but the blind panic is getting a little old.
 
I think some of these people really want to believe that this is a big, serious deal. It means they get to be there for something huge and historic. They get to be the generation that survived the coronavirus. Or something.

They've been trying to convince us that we live in momentous times well before this. Some of them think that Donald Trump signals the end of the Republic. Some of them think that Antifa is bringing about the end of the world.

It gives them a huge dopamine hit, and they can feel justified in anything they do because this time it's serious. They are absolved of the need to be polite, reasonable, or even basically decent. We must all cast aside our boundaries and only listen to them.

I don't think there's much reasoning with that. I just ignore them. They are not part of the solution.
 
the doomsdayers are pretty entertaining, but the longform redditposting bloggers are the fucking worst. some of the worst posters from other parts of the site are just camping there and shitting it up with their retarded hottakes on absolutely nothing.

a furypost about your shithole nation's government doesn't need to be a 2000 word essay. that thread is unironically plagued.
 
A bunch of people are being asked to self isolate so you got a lot of bored people with too much time on their hands. That and modern society is pretty good at making sure everything is easy and convenient to get and now that’s no longer the case. When you combine all that with autism, you get the coronavirus megathread.

I’m not a plan truster but the doomerposting is hilarious. Niggas have never been a part of a recession. I heard “the end is here and THIS time it’s different” with 9/11, 2008, and now.
 
I thought the point of the Happenings board was to contain the coronavirus sperging, why is half of this page dominated by the same obvious sock account posting every idiot's coronavirus-inspired hot take?

In all fairness I think that containing Corona talk is essentially impossible at this point. I booted up some ancient, multiplayer PC game just for shits and giggles the other day and the chat was full of people ranting about the outbreak. This game came out in like 2002. Everyone in every corner of society can't stop talking about it.

You misunderstand: I'm not attempting to tard-wrangle Corona talk. If it spills out into other boards, I don't find that at all unexpected given the literal world-wide attention that this ordeal is getting. Nearly the entirety of the Happenings board and a good chunk of A&H's new content is already dedicated to it anyways. Trying to push all that into the megathread would just make it an unmanageable mess that grows by 100 pages or more every day.

I wish that people would stop getting all big-mad in there, but otherwise I think that the Wuhan thread is a lot of fun.

Why so hostile? I’m just expressing my opinion and sooner or later people are gonna have to go back to work preferably gradually if people are still concerned. The media is driving people nuts and it’s starting to wear on people. I understand your concerns but people are going to break if the quarantines continues with no end in sight.
