Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

May I ask exactly what in the everlasting fuck is going on in the coronavirus thread?

So I'm starting to prep this week. I've got a feeling in my bones. Questions:

1) How much water do I need for 2-4 people?

2) What are the best non-perishable food items that will last for years that are easily available?

For meds, I'm just going to buy a ton of NSAIDs, Lidocaine and such. Basic antibiotics.
:/ were fucked corona Chan is going to rape us if the USA doesn't close it's borders like right fucking now.
Depends on what cheap means.

You can stock up on Sardines, Ramen, Tuna, etc for like $0.11 per serving. That will get you through a couple weeks for under $100. Also get the 5 gal water bottles, just make a wall of them for whatever may come. You could need to boil your own water, those jugs can be used to capture condensation.

I bought 2,000 high-end MREs at the start of this for $4 per serving. This covers the people I care about for a month.

What you really want to stock up on is guns. Food is no good if your neighbors can steal it. Figure out what the gun laws are in your area and buy whatever has the shortest waiting period along with as much ammo as possible. I'm not a gun guy, but I understand Chinese-made AKs are very popular right now. There's a secondary market of people buying metal plates for rifle butts and bayonet holders that fit them popping up in various places.

The US Army published a Survival Guide in the 1940s which is excellent. Find a paper copy and tuck it away just in case you lose Internets. Covers survival food and capturing fresh water, which are necessary if you need to rough it. You should probably make sure you have a tent and a sleeping bag while you're at it.
I know that people have said this before, but I'm going to say it now to remind everyone. DO NOT FUCKING WAIT

If you're in an unaffected country stock up on food now. Boxes of rice, canned foods, can opener in case you don't have one, etc. Make sure it's enough to last several weeks to a few months. Because the store shelves are going to be dry for a while. Even if things go the way of the optimists which is highly unlikely, you've still got choices of food for a few months.

(Pics related) Six to twelve weeks worth of food per person should be fine. If you wait until the virus hits your area you're going to be shit out of luck.

1. Gather water like right now get as many containers and fill them. bottles jugs. etc.
2. Rice cereals canned food.
As for meds keep any antibiotics and pain meds I'm talking prescription strength stuff. You may already have it in your drug cabinet check the expiration date. you maybe able to survive corona Chan but you could probably die if you get cut and it becomes infected. Pain meds can be traded for more resources. I would recommend buying some shitty bottom shelf vodka. Vodka is good for disinfecting cleaning antiseptic and it's easy to drink. As well as can be traded.
You can like get a gallon of it for 10 dollars.
1) Around 4 liters per person per day
2) Dry beans and dry rice.
Oh yeah learn how to siphon gasoline if shit hits the fan people are going to head for the country side. This can cause traffic jams and people will ditch their cars and try to leave on foot. You can if things get bad sneak over and get free gasoline.
If you have most of your food together, consider boullion cubes and spices/herbs. It gives you more things to work with to keep the basics from getting boring. Instead of plain rice, add basil, boullion and some fried onion or onion powder, you have pilaf, etc. Shit, I just stocked up on salt and pepper. Can't eat a potato without it...
Starting my prep work tomorrow,
So, serious question here. At what point do you quit your job?

(Edit: assuming you already have 6 months living expenses)
Here's an important survival tip: Go hungry. You don't need three squares a day to survive, especially if you're just holed up in your house and barely moving. Don't blow through a can of food just because you're hungry, ration that shit and stretch it out. If you're actually doing a Zompocalypse roleplay and running around in the woods building a log cabin, yeah, you'll need lots of calories, but if you're just putting duct tape on your front door and shitposting here, you only need a bare minimum caloric intake to keep your body going.
I have started gathering canned food and bottled water. I have 50 lbs of rice. Other things I am stashing include plastic grocery bags and baggies. I am a camper so I already own a lot of what I might need. I have enough non-perishable food and vitamins to last my family 45 days. I stocked up on propane and cleaned my stove (1980's Coleman that is amazing). My kid can convert engines to ethanol or methanol so we are in a pretty good position. If it gets really bad we will commandeer a summer camp up north.

I seriously hope that come summer I am laughing at my own paranoia and looking for ways to integrate canned fruit and veg into our daily diets.
For stockpiling antibiotics, check out fish antibiotics. They're the same thing you would be prescribed at a doctor's office, but not FDA approved for human consumption.
There's a gun show coming up in my area, so I plan on buying a couple of firearms. I've got a few thousand dollars to spare on that. If Corona-chan goes on a stripper grand tour here in the U.S., and we end up getting bands of crazed looters, could my gun-loving kiwis recommend what guns would be best for home-defense? Jet Fuel Johnny seems to know more about survival than Bear-fucking-Grylls, so I'd like to see what advice our favorite survivalist has about fortifying your house for defense against an armed invasion by African looters looking to steal the food you've got stocked up. Thanks for the survival manuals.
Godspeed Gentlemen. :semperfidelis:

People go nuts because the MSM and social media hyper-charge this kind of stuff and they don't remember that the Avian flu was supposed to kill us all, SARS was supposed to kill us all, and then Ebola was supposed to kill us all. There's some kind of mass freak-out every couple of years about this and there's no getting people to calm down. The fact that so many people don't have provisions tucked away for stuff like natural disasters is really strange, though. Preparing for some kind of Black Plague 2.0 is a bit silly but you'd think in the very least you'd have enough tucked away to weather an unusually-strong storm or something, since that's bound to happen at some point.

It's gonna' be a good couple of months to own stock in canned goods companies, though.

if it gets people to buy 2 weeks worth of food and fresh water (maybe some spare ammo) it's a good thing. 2000 MREs seems pretty extreme tho unless you're a prepper for fun. That's like 2.5 year's worth of food for one person.

Seeing as how the chinese goverment is dissapearing paper money with the pretext that corona chan is able to be transmited more easily by it, it got me thinking
what if the this pandemic is just smoke and mirrors so the populacion willingly surrenders their paper money, making the yuang (or whatever the fuck the chinese coin is called) in turn reducing inflation due to the recent sanctions trump has imponed on china

If you make a sandwich and need lettuce, be sure to use Romaine instead of (((iceberg))).
lettuce is party fag for losers us awesome big dick chad energy proles use spiniach like ancient pagan popeyes and shit

as for ((((concerns)))) I think it's the difference between everybody dunking on a botched "hate crime" graffiti with a hearty round of "hey rabbi watcha doing" as opposed to a discussion about lack of availability of filter masks for our totally not schizo Corona prepping being a plot against us by the zionist-in-chief aka the Donaldberg and his zog ally Nanstien Polosiberg.

Wishful thinking.
Regular Kiwis are learning about, responding to and venting about a global pandemic. WTF is your problem with it?
It won't do much good if they don't develop an overall mindset of preparedness. It's great to have a long term supply of food, less good if it's not cycled out before becoming dangerous.

It's the H part of "Articles & Happenings". Some nice old uncles are regaling the rest of us with their wartales while autists spend thousands of dollars on MREs. There's the happening, and the meta-happening, and now you've created a meta-meta-happening.

Don't worry, we'll be safe once @MrTickles comes back from the store with the breathing masks he promised.

Just wanted to stop in to say that I think @It's HK-47 has been doing a great job supervising a&h and I'm glad Null picked him for the job. Only a man with unending patience could deal with the spergery that happens on this board.

He really has been doing an awesome job imo. He's kept the sperging to a minimum without trampling on anyone's free speech which is no small task. Honestly I think he might should be considered for a moderator position.

He'll be the only mod who isn't a fag. He is the people's mod.

If he becomes a mod he will end up pozzed just like the rest

I actually think most of the mods here are pretty good. From what I can see from the user end at least, most of the disputes are user v.s jannie disputes. If I understand everything correctly, only mods and above have actual ban powers, and I haven't seen too many people banned for just outright stupid shit. The only real knock I've had against the actual moderation here has been over perma bans which I think are bad in general in most cases.
