Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

You're right, I took a break from the internet, realized that wouldn't result in anything productive happening and would further degrade the thread, and decided to not bother. And maybe if you did the same once in a while you wouldn't live ITT and doggedly ping me about "WHERE ARE MY ANSWERS" like an autist.

Having meticulously defined rules is bad. It invites rules lawyers that shitpost but throw immense effort in trying to justify not breaking any rules. It generally encourages borderline behaviour that skirts the rules.

fuzzy rules are the best. if you don’t fit, you get out.

the quality of a forum depends on whether the management has any head resting on their shoulders, not much else. SA wouldn’t have been saved by Lowtax having written a book of forum law.
 
My sense is that the proper way to run a forum depends entirely on the mental state of the moderation staff. In particular, their willingness to be collectively forthright. If they're not, bring on the autistic rules.

Speaking purely for myself, I found it odd that HK became the frontman for a moderation action that he wasn't responsible for. I would rather whoever actually does a controversial thing to explain it.

If you aren't willing to post that list out of some spontaneously found desire to uphold thread quality, Absolutego, then you shouldn't say that there is one at all. Right now, all you're doing is cowardly sniping at phantoms who won't name but we're supposed to be sure are real.

As for the argument about whether Jew-sperging should or should not have explicit and consistent rules concerning it, or whether it should remain a "fuzzy" case-by-case context thing, my position (especially since I see A&H as something of a containment board for Jew-sperging), is that unless the Jew-sperging in question actively derails the thread, or has nothing to do with the thread topic, don't moderate it. And if you do want to moderate it, only do so with clear, unambiguous, and consistently-applied rules over when and when not Jew-sperging is allowed.

I'd completely refuse to write one anyways because I don't think it needs to be defined. Does someone need to pore over an exhausting rule book each and every time they go into a store or visit a public park or go to a friend's house, or do they just generally know how to act? No one has to hover over their shoulder the entire time that they're browsing cereal reminding them to not start screaming about the Final Solution and no one has to periodically wander down the lumber aisle in Home Depot to make sure no one's trying to draft Mexican carpenters into the next Race War. Most people just know how to regulate themselves.

I don't even enforce things to the letter anyways because if I did then half of A&H would have been banned from the sub-board by now for one word replies and reaction images and posting nothing but YouTube music links in the Kung Flu thread. I'm supposed to permanently ban people from the board if they do that, but I don't, because I don't mind just quietly moderating it. Doing stuff "completely by the book" is for boring, autistic people who don't understand how to interpret things contextually.

have you considered banning anyone who hurts my feefees? i believe that is the only moral course of action. you aren't a nazi, are you? why won't you just ban everyone who doesn't agree with me? they're all sinners anyways and as we all know this is a christian forum who loves isreal.

Hate to nitpick but the forum guidelines suggest it's just a 1-month ban from the board for single word replies. Where is the permanently banning coming from?

I'm fairly certain shitting up threads with spergy bullshit isn't tolerated sitewide. That jewposting gets a more heavy-handed treatment is likely because of that. We all know about the duality of the activist jews who try to play it both ways. Where it gets spergy is tying that into some greater conspiracy. Or, hell, Zionism. Nobody wants to read your fringe screed again. Unless it is funny.

Reality is that folks playing shit both ways is not uncommon at all. The trust-fund hipster. The perpetually unemployed commie who larps as a blue-collar worker. The BLM leader whose dad is a railroad executive. The LGBTQIA2+ transman who looks exactly the same as they did as a woman. The MGTOW who desperately wants to get laid. Hell, a good portion of this site is dedicated to cataloging these people and watching them struggle to sell their line of delusional bullshit to an uncaring world.
