Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

The way to avoid backseat modding is just report shit you think breaks the rules.

I rarely even bother reporting anything on A&H except outright spam. It's a waste of time. It's never going to get better. It's only going to get worse. I only bother to try to rescue threads that actually have a topic other than shitposting, which isn't very many.

This is arguably just a big ol' shitposting forum, and some people are just taking it too seriously due to political animus.
 
The George Zimmerman thread was trash because both sides of ze spectrum sperging at each other. Let me put this at you this way. You have /pol/tards doing the "niggers" shtick treating the whole story as a fun shitposting vehicle and then you have people taking it way too seriously with them sperging out and then the shitposters sperging out as well. The clash of both kinds of posters at battle is funny and that's why it was such a funny dumpster fire.

Also, lol. @Senior Lexmechanic, you're kind of a faggot. The only reason you dislike /pol/tards on A&H is because you disagree with them and you're not strong enough to fight back against them. So you whinge and complain until you get your validation. Man up, faggot. Try to discuss with them civilly as I did with @Rice Is Ready in his comments section page.

Seriously, this is the actual problem. People frame disagreement as hostility, because almost every other kind of forum or social meeting place on the Internet would characterize it as such.

Strongly agree. One of the things that makes the Farms funny is that free range morons are allowed to seek their own natural destiny. People who are trying to beatify Trayvon Martin get the hose. People who are trying to sanctify George Zimmerman get the hose. Everybody gets the hose! And they do it to themselves!
 
I was thinking about how I and others relate to a board like this. For instance I often find myself making a memey post to begin with, and then an actual in-depth think post later on. If people only read the former, they'd probably find all my output here obnoxious, rather than that which they disagree with only. People who only read the latter think I'm a much more serious poster than I actually am...I guess I'm speaking about the need to not so much apply strict rules but to terminate on sight people who are overhwelmingly autistic as posters. Of course, this would be very challenging to do for a moderator to do who had anything in the way of developed political opinions himself. I'd guess that that's part of the tension here.
 
The problem is as @Spooky Bones implies: anyone who would actually want to moderate this place likely only does because they want to do a politically-motivated purge Something Awful-style.

So you have to get the chillest motherfuckers in the universe and press-gang them into supervisor status. Hence the burnout.
 
And honestly, I find that ratings don't help things. One might accuse my behavior I referenced above as trying to farm positive ratings and be careful of negative ones, although it's totally not that--it's more of just sticking my finger in the wind. I don't give a shit about ratings even though mine are overwhelmingly positive: something somebody said (in this very thread, maybe, or one of the silly ones about ratings) that people with too many positive ratings are often faggots because they only dip into threads that they won't get a boot-roasting in. And that is truly kind of gay. As well as are people who only post memey shit (here, in the current year on the current board, this is actually more often right-wing spergery than left-wing spergery, although right-wing spergery as I know will gain enough negative ratings if done in an autistic way, and left-wing spergery will often get a dumb/autistic rating rapidly in from people who may not have even read it.) Caring about ratings is lame and gay but it's something we might want to think about in terms of it's impact here. Getting rid of (positive and negative: agree, disagree, dumb, autistic, etc.) ratings in A&H might actually be a good thing. Keep "informative" and "thoughtful" maybe, and let us report "autistic" posts and actually engage with ones that we find "stupid" because of their opinion rather than their memery. maybe?

I agree with you that total anarchy is as bad as excessive censorship, either way we can't have a decent discussion.

I'll fully admit to not liking trudging through the same arguments a thousand times and having very little patience for willful idiocy. I tend to be pissy during the winter, too (I'm probably sub-clinical SAD), which adds to things. I'll fully admit I've been acting like a faggot over the past few days.

I feel like I kind of see you as a faggot a lot of the time on A&H too despite having a based 40K username and in general being a pretty good poster and I definitely agree with you here. As I allude to above a perfect-world management style for this kind of board is to just ban faggots for fagging and then a lot more decent people such as yourself wouldn't be so obnoxious when reeee-ing back to them (as happens as on both sides), nor would anyone on either side automatically feel entitled to say fuck right off within 7 seconds of reading a post and slam it as dumb/autistic because it reminds them of an exceptional political culture (Nazi, based-Trump, and conspiracy-oriented right-wing exceptionals, SJWs on the left) that bothers you. Problem is this is impossible to do with objectivity, except perhaps by dragooned goodposters like mentioned above. Still they have shown an evident tendency to burn out or to become exceptional themselves over some type of shit: this is a problem on every board. Thank God we have @Null, to be honest, I was thinking as I was reading some dumb shit about hotwheels. Even if this is a site about a rapidly-aging late-thirties autist troon, it's actually a place where a lot of smart people from different backgrounds get together to sperg about random shit. When this works this is great. The Amber people and the Chris people for instance would probably never ever meet elsewhere, but sometimes it's interesting; also the political spectrum of the forum---speaking generally, not about Any slapfighting I do with someone in meta on here is going to be about something that would seem to go in an unhinged direction either towards anarchy or lockdown.

I propose that we replace all existing ratings with new ones: Corbin Dallas Multipass, Hillary Clinton Death Squads, and Hitler Drumpf. They are all negative. In order to apply a rating, you must first post a freshly take nude photo with "internet nigger" visibly written on your body.

This will solve all of our problems. I will follow up with a bill for my expensive consulting service. If you disagree with me, you are a bigot because according to my username, I am pregnant, and according to my profile picture, I am mentally handicapped.

Nah, i have a better solution, make 3 stickers:
Corbin dallas for right wing
Boogie1488 for the neutrals
And a hammer and sickle for leftist
And you give the users the ability to filter the posts that contain a certain amount of the 2 stickers that you dont want
That way everyone gets their political circlejerk and null kills this board withough having to get his hands dirty
