Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Banning a political discussion board isn't going to help. If anything, it's going to spill over to other parts of the site. Therefore making more to clean up. And it borders on censorship. Moderating derailers and /pol/ lite helps. We also have the Ignore function to self moderate ourselves.

Though I don't see it as a pussy thing to put people on ignore if all they do is shit like bait posts. It's the posting equivalent of spamming ASCII art in a stream chat.

Make a list of the people who claim that putting users on ignore is for pussies. The odds are very good that this is a list of people whose posts you won't miss seeing.

Yeah. Ideally you ignore nobody, but if it's a choice between that or unning to the mods to shut down the entire section of the site the conversation you don't like is happening on, then use the fucking ignore function.

And if someone just spams stupid shit it gets in the way, so you block them. Or do some people think banning spam bots is for pussies too?

Yeah even though my feed is filled with people feeding him this is what I ultimately did for that one Aussie chink bootlicker. Him and the dude constantly derailing the impeachment thread with un-chopped chum.

By banning pol types, do you mean the terminally autistic or people who hold views similar to pol? Often despite a reputation of increasing extremism these are just edgy people learning politics in a highly competitive edgy environment who don't know much beyond memes. They often mellow and may even be worth saving. As always, the turbospergs who come to the attention of the forum are beyond redemption though. For instance discussions about Jews are often worth having unless utterly shat up with memery whereas icelism and deranged views of women, etc. are another matter. Such people should be vigorously mocked and never allowed to congregate.

I just don't understand what the hate boner for people that you don't like on this specific part of the site is about, when the ignore function exists.

Think about it, if you dislike that person enough that you wouldn't want to see their posts anymore, and other people like you don't want to see their posts anymore, if you all would just ignore that person it's effectively the same as banning them - except you don't keep people who see some value in that person's posts from seeing what they have to say.

To add onto that, that you have the option at the bottom of any page that contains posts from someone who's on your ignore list to show all posts by anyone who's on it on that page, it really seems like laziness at best. You can, in effect, be your own moderator.

I mean there's an option three: simply not giving enough of a fuck about what people post. Do I find bait posts useful? Nah. Do I get annoyed by them? Honestly, not really. Kinda just roll my eyes a bit and scroll past. I get more annoyed by the slew of people who respond to bait for pages on end, but again I just scroll past it.

The most irritating is the threads where people run out of new shit to talk about, so it's just the same points made over and over in a huge circle. Like the Dobson thread. Visited it after 3 months and wow, it's like I never stopped reading it, ya know? That's when I just skip entire pages until I get to something newish.

So yeah, whining to mods is for pussies. Ignoring people? Nah. I just never found it useful. Played enough EVE and games with gold sellers to filter out useless shit lol.

Yeah thats the thing I don’t quite get, it’s one thing to say “lol what a fag” and scroll down to the next post, it’s another to get asshurt and demand people get purged for sharing opinions you don’t like or for giving you internet stickers you don’t think you deserve or even more pathetically, get mad that you think other people you don’t like are getting too many of the right internet stickers. I get that one of KF’s greatest ironies is that the userbase tends to be more autistic than the people they like to make fun of but damn, try to have _some_ degree of self awareness.

It's the mods and Null who hate the forum. Mods usually quit and Null hates it so much he deleted it twice before and started this thread because he was obviously considering nuking it again.

I maintain the board should be renamed to BnM, Bitching and Moaning, to be more accurate to what it is honestly.
