Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

I enjoy A&H for the random information from all over the net in one convenient location. I can read about an old woman beating the shit out of a home invader in the same place I read about someone that huffs farts.
My issue with A&H is the shit-tier thread making. Most of the persons posting just copy/paste entire pages and then unceremoniously slop it down in passing like it's a race. It's the equivalent of instead of stopping to take a shit you just don't wear pants and do it while walking.
Take five minutes, clean it up and present it nicely you lazy ass casuals.

Got any examples?

Dear God, you're right. That's terrible. It's understandable for it to be a little rough at first, but damn son, that edit function is there for a reason.

You can't just paste the page contents and call it a day! You gotta edit out the ads, the weird formatting shit, and any other crap. You can do it on a phone, that's no excuse!

Maybe stuff like that should get a warning, followed by a ban on thread creation for a few weeks. @It's HK-47 is the moderator for a&h now right? What do you think, Noble robot?

If there is one thing the past few years have demonstrated, it's that conspiracy theorists always give up immediately once you start silencing them.
it wouldn't be silencing, it would be putting their spergy bullshit in a thread that they can shit up to their heart's content

That would really be the best approach. If something's formatted improperly I'll just fix it, I really don't care. I was never a fan of issuing bans for anything unless it was something like spamming or "advertisement" spamming from people who either can't control themselves or are just here to post shady URLs to Russian porn blogs or something. Otherwise, if someone formats a thread improperly I'll just fix it, it takes like 30 seconds.

In his case, I'm really not sure why his threads always wind up formatted like that. I've seen him do that several times, and I don't really know what's causing it.

It could be an accessibility setting that produces additional HTML artifacts, or possibly a really terrible script that copy-pastes. I've seen screen readers produce some really interesting stuff when copy-pasting. The mess is too orderly and precise to be just human-sloppiness IMO, especially if it's happened similarly more than once.

That "distinction" is subtle at best and would very likely fuel unfunny sperging.
Fwiw I think the very worst of it is quarentined on the meta discussion subforum, it's name escapes me.

You have an ignore button, you know. Takes a second of your time to use it if it bothers you that much.

But how else can I signal to others how I feel though?

Funny enough there's a handy-dandy notification on the bottom of a page on the opposite side of, and just above the page number selector that shows if there's content from someone you have ignored on it, that you can click to un-hide their posts.

It's a really amazing function, actually... and sort of invalidates the bitching about A&H posters.

An issue I got with some of the threads being created is that some are low-tier garbage. I don't wanna read another article where "Social media is censoring conservative voices!!!" for the millionth fucking time. You know its true and I know its true. If it isn't Informative, Funny, or Eccentric don't post it.

If you're going to delete a thread, and it's tech related, consider moving it to the tech board instead. Someone pointed out a Nick Monroe article about Twitter was deleted, which I would have been fine with on the tech board.
How about we keep the tech board about tech and not about culture wars on social media? I can't imagine Nick Monroe PressFart was talking about twitter technical details as opposed to continuing to hammer home "hey twitter is an ineptly run social media platform" over and over again.
