Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

Given the way that things have been going recently with other sites, we should all be thankful that we still have a place to shitpost about political subjects.
It's also good to have a place to find news stories that get buried or suppressed elsewhere, regardless of the quality of posts about said stories (although it would still be preferable to have a higher quality of discussion than there is now).
I think that there should be some way of separating the "shitposting" side of A&H and the "informative" side of A&H. This could be done with tags, or maybe even separate boards. It might also be possible to contain some of the sperging about specific, major or ongoing events by relegating more of said discussion to megathreads.
Having a default limit on the number of posts or pages per thread (which could be modified under certain extenuating circumstances) might also reduce some of the repetitive posting.

When a photo of a woman who was supposedly burned by antifa cement milkshakes was picking up steam in the Portland thread, I came in with my dreary fact check to burst everyone's bubble and I didn't get a single negative rating for it. This board is the most reasonable venue for political news I've seen in years, and I think the people insisting A&H is indistinguishable from /pol/ just don't like seeing anyone disagree with them and go unpunished for it. Yes, there are always a few people eager to let everyone know (((who))) is really responsible for something, but every time I've seen a post like that it has been ignored. I do see real morons in here, and I also see that they never get any traction. It's fine.

I agree, but personally, I feel that this needs to be taken to a meta-level; plenty of people, myself included at times, have accused simple disagreement in A&H as being uncivil.
It's hard to read something that upsets us without assuming that it was an act of aggression. We feel the punch, so we put our guard up and look for an attacker. Just human nature working against us.

I always try to assume the most generous interpretation of someone's words and intentions because it's just opinions on the internet.

Edit: Also lots of people admitting to being left-leaning in this thread. This is kind of like a sheep-in-wolf's-clothing sketch. Is the internet made up of nothing but pissed off edgy leftwingers? I mean, we all knew it always was, but maybe this is the proof.

Personally I think it's just part of the ongoing political realignment caused by decades of Globohomo Neolibservatism fucking everyone into the dirt as cheaply as they can. Britain, America, Italy, Brazil, the Philippines, there are an awful lot of populists seizing power the world over based mostly on the established order pissing off the vast majority of people, regardless of previous party affiliation. At least in America I can't tell which will happen first, Trump successfully rehabilitating his party, or the Democrats successfully destroying theirs, there are a lot of holdovers in both parties that still think the genie can be put back in the bottle.

See, THIS is an ice-cold /pol/ take if I ever saw one. If leftists want to ban this, I won't protest too much.

you could also disagree with his points, just scroll past, or even go "lol ur feg"
I'm pretty sure I've seen hot pol takes that were simply responded to with something about as weighty as "lol ur fag" and it's gotten plenty of them tasty good sticker dogpiles

Yes, I'm somewhat aware of the contents of both the transcript and the whistleblower's report, thank you. Again, as outlined in Treaty Document 106–16, asking the Ukrainian government to mutually cooperate with investigations is completely legal. The investigations in question were pertaining to the 2016 election, not the current election, and the Ukrainian President was the one who brought up Rudy Gulianni first; Trump was just continuing that discussion.

The whistleblower's report also said that an official was present during the call who has since gone on record as not being present-- You know, these discussions would be a lot easier to have if you just read these sorts of threads before posting in them, all of this information's already been presented and we're only 17 pages deep. Please consider doing so, it would clear up a lot of your questions.
Obviously HK-47 is a much more polite person than a lot of people around here but here's a great example of somebody spazzing out to Correct The Record and actually being responded to on the issues at hand, despite the spaz regularly going off on some random shit about dicks or something because he's obviously a massive gay fag who likes dicks.
also sorry for doubleposting
edit my apology was NOT accepted and now I'm literally dead ;_;

One underrated aspect about A&H is that you could get news about damn near anything, especially politics and you could have a discussion about it. Literally I spend more time getting my news from here than any other news channel or source. It'd be a shame to see that go.

You get some real weird or funny headlines that I would not bother to look or find out about, it's definitely fun in that regard.

Your pretty cool @L50LasPak ,I liked how you joined this thread with some thing about how news feeds are destroying brains and then switched to bitching about pol having too many conspiracy theories, that's exactly why I love a&h and never want it to change.

I just don't really understand this to be honest. There are some tribalists on here who take any questioning of their sacred 'Israel's supposed right to murder MUDSLIMES or anyone else with brown skin badly, but once you click ignore on those three or four Jews it's fine, quality of discussion is really quite high.

I am rather stunned by the people here wanting this humble farming forum to take after places like Reddit and ResetEra. and for what apart from "muh Autism" "Muh Ratings" and "Not enough people like me" if you have a different opinion than what someelse is posting either respond or fuck off. don't cry for bans like a homo.

Agreed. The discussion that occurs here is far more reasonable than it often gets credit for.

The worst A&H threads are the ones that get featured and end up with 20 pages of people posting the same 2-3 things.

I don't know I mean this place is a bit circle jerky as any political board eventually ends up being but I learn shit here. I don't think it's that bad. At least the "MUH JEWS" retards still mostly get laughed at when they're actually serious.

But if you want I'll moderate it using NAP compliant principles.
meaning I won't actually do anything at all because words aren't coercion

But no really I think the problem is more with the moderation staff than the posters. Like why did that annoying sperg constantly shilling for the People's Republic of China get posts deleted when we allow other shilling? There's just nothing consistent about enforcement. I guess because the mods fucking hate reading this board?

I honestly don't know what's wrong with this board, lol. As much, I've had negative ratings, and that's it. Maybe I'm not being dogpiled because I don't write dumb autistic opinions. Also, this place is very eclectic. I get most of my world news from here. A few things I read in twitter, I read them here first.

On reading the thread more I think the forum just needs a giant flashing banner over it that says "DISAGREE IS NOT A NEGRATE".

I don't know, personally I get the feeling that people skip the Disagree rating and go straight for Dumb and Autistic too often. Not that either of these is a good reason to get worked up anyway.

Yeah that's true, I've done it myself. Thing is if those weren't there then every-time someone was in a bad mood and mad at the internet they'd make an actual shitpost. Negrate and move on saves time and improves the quality of posting.
